I would know if I was living with a felon.   100% you should vet who you live with especially if your parents are political figures.    If your parents are politicians they should likely do some vetting as well.    Probably a background check.

you do realize a cache of guns and ammo could be literally be a pistol, a hunting rifle and a few magazines you are sounding like an anti 2A guy right now lol the roommate was a non violent felon who was caught a felony speeding charge. This is a nothingburger. I am pro 2a.   Can felons have a cache of guns?  No they cannot.

it was not speeding.  He was fleeing police for getting caught street racing at ~110 mph.  

he has 10 convictions.  The worst is the felony where he was endangering dozens of humans by running from Leo at ~110 mph.   He was fleeing the police.   He certainly put pedestrians police and other vehicles in danger.   Tis why it was elevated to a felony.     
 

Tis why he can’t own a gun.  Let alone a cache of guns.

if they were my roommates? i was in their cars. and their rooms. 

we hung out. they were in my room, in my car...

i had 6 at one time.

i could tell you what was in their room on any given day and i knew if they were doing something. 

one roommate and i each bought sks together. wish i had kept mine.

Yes — a felon can get gun rights back, but the process depends on whether the conviction was federal or state, and may require a pardon, expungement, or the newly revived federal restoration process under 18 U.S.C. § 925(c)

12 states automatically restore gun rights after a waiting period after being a convicted felon, and 33 states will restore your gun rights as  a convicted felon if you petition the court. 

that's a lot of states that let convicted felons own guns when you say they can't get one legally anywhere in the US.....
