THAT GOOD!

Tovar w/ the TF and the gold medal

Wow... 65Kg final: I really thought that Aliev had the Russian pinned... the ref refused to slap the mat.

Too bad for the Uzbek, as Ibragimov took the gold

Oh man I wrote Douglas…sweeping the floor and helping the kids while writing that one. That’s on me…

@ 80Kg, THAT was a heartbreak for Hagino of Japan while leading 7-4 in the waning seconds... the Russian Elmesov took him down & turned him for the 4 points to decide the bronze.

@ 110Kg finals... after the Russian got his 4 point throw, I figured that the oversized Iranian was going to physically wreck him till Monday.

He came close, going after him and closing it to 5-4... but a desperation shot in the closing seconds by the Iranian made it 7-4 to the Russian.

Wrestle that match 10 times, I figured that the Iranian would come out on top in the majority (imho, of course.)

It ends that way, 8-0 & bronze to Patil of India.

No

Medals

Today

for the USA.

Tsarni made the 92kg final today meaning he has at least a silver.  He of course wont receive a medal until tomorrow because he could still make it a gold.

Is this the USA's worst ever FS performance at U17 worlds?

Somebody else will have to look into that...

2019 they won one gold (McGowan) and one bronze (Facundo). Before that, you have to go back to 2012/2013, where we won one gold and that's it (Zain and Pico at 63kg).

Since the reintroduction of Cadet/U17 worlds in 2011, the US has always had at least one gold medalist. Wax and Tsarni will try to extend that streak tomorrow.

Meanwhile... Tsarni just TF his Indian opponent 11-0... same as his Russian w/ his result in his end of the bracket over a rare SF appearance of his Great Britain opp. (GB appearing anywhere in wrestling is a rare bird... '84 Olympics had bronze medalist Noel Loban ... also a NCAA champ in '80 for Clemson U.)

That GB kid won at least one match last year with a nifty throw that Flo pumped out on socials; could be someone to try and remember
