So it’s okay to trash the majority of high school wrestlers, but not to define our “top” wrestlers as top 3 in the country?

Make it make sense.

And no, your wrestling experience does not override mine at all, unless of course you’re living vicariously through your kids again.  You do do that a lot.  And again, I’ve been consistent in saying that someone’s own credentials doesn’t mean they can’t criticize someone who has better credentials than them.  It’s just extremely odd to see you repeatedly bashing people’s credentials while having literally zero of your own.

you simply do not know much about wrestling...

it is painfully obvious...

anyway, i am sure you are being missed in the NWT...

I never said that.

What are you even arguing at this point?  That our  top 3 in Greco could probably be top 50 in leg grabbing?  Sure, that’s reasonable.

@LJB if this is your argument, I think we’re on the same page

I’m mostly just trying to figure out what you’re even arguing.   That a top 3 Greco guy could be top 50 in free?  I agree!

what are trying to accomplish, nerd?

what is your end goal?

Colorado right? I don't know Greco training situations. Was there good training when your kids were young, or did they just always like it? Did they go to the OTC early on?

So few kids set out to actually be good at Greco. They will do it young, but we all see it as a waste of talent when someone who is a high school phenom pursues Greco. Look at the Raneys. It is what it is.

Building folkstyle skills can translate to freestyle. But the best kids eventually go to college and Greco is seen as waste of time, or rather there isn't enough time for it, when you want to have a good college career. There's no time dedicated to Greco in our college rooms. If that could be fixed, it would help immensely.

they started wrestling greco when we were still in Oklahoma, but, calling what OK does greco is a stretch but we started talking gold medals then...

the club we moved into in CO were very pro international styles and they got about the best youth greco coaching available in this country... provisor was in the room quite a bit... lindland would come in as well on occasion...

they oldest started going to the OTC after winning nationals in free the summer before his freshmen year of high school...

personally, i had no desire for them to even wrestle in high school... didn't seem important enough to me... but, their coach got a job as an assistant at a high school and max followed him there... bunch of shenanigans ensued... was suspended from repping CO for a year... kicked out of the OTC... blah blah blah... it could have gone very bad but he pulled it together and chose greco and NMU over UNI...

the younger hated folk... absolutely hated it... but there is just not any real opportunities to do greco full time young in this country... wrestled his freshmen year at a different high school... got into the state finals and got a little roughed up on size... then took 5th at cadet worlds the next summer and that was it for him... we just started to figure out how to get him training where ever we could... his coach was supportive because he knew how much he hated folk... was wrestling college kids as a 115lb 16 year old... blew his knee out as a result... got cleared to go back to training 3 weeks before state and his HS coach/teammates convinced him to come back and wrestle so he shed about 20lbs and ended up 4th totally out of shape... then back to full time greco...

he then met joe warren and we moved again so he could train full time with a senior athlete... OTC tried to recruit him as a resident athlete but he turned them down to do his own thing which was better than anything they could provide at the time...that did not go over well at all and started a bit of a war with USAW that still has some ripples today...

he did wrestle his senior year at the local HS that his buddy had been wrestling for... he complimented their team very well and between the two and couple of others they set a tone and won the team title that year... it was pretty fun... the team had never been good before and went right back to not being good right after... that spurred an iowa recruitment that i was ok with purely because of money and he was there for about 5 months and just doesn't like folk enough to do what he needed to do to be a D1 athlete... and the simple fact of the matter was he just could not accept that nobody in that room was trying to be a world champ...

college wrestling was never pushed in our house... world and olympic medals was pushed...

D1 was a fall back plan and they both had multiple offers, but, chose greco because that is what they wanted to do...

you can not be a world champ in folk... it is just that simple...

and doing things just because everyone else think you should do them is a sheep's mentality and that is just not how any of us roll...

greco guys in this country across the board are a different breed from the sheeple and those are our people...

I took a break from the forum… this thread is still going on… not going to read it. If you don’t like Greco, fine. Don’t watch it. In no world is getting rid of Greco going to lead to more weights in men’s freestyle. It would only lead to less wrestling.

nofete…the New Ministry… RAFWiki.. you can be an asset to this message board if you don’t get into petty quarrels.

Folkstyle is American youth wrestling. By definition. Grown men getting so incensed to preserve it is a bad look.

Who is "getting so incensed to preserve" folkstyle?  How does the style that is the overwhelming majority of U.S. wrestling need protection?  The style that sells out a pro arena every spring for an ESPN televised tournament?  Your premise is a ridiculous strawman concoction.  No one here is getting incensed over preserving folkstyle.  People just don't like having themselves and their intelligence insulted with weird,  irrelevant ad hominem attacks.

Basically…I was going to find a little more dramatic picture. Steeper cliff, deeper waters, maybe a little flare in the jump with a twist…

I was looking for such in a gif ... didn't find it.  Sometimes the search cost is just too high.

You have the strawman argument. Folkstyle has nothing to do with the popularity of college wrestling. Change it to freestyle, the same people would watch.  The point is folkstyle hurts wrestling. Period. I’m not qualifying that in any way. Filkstyle hurts wrestling. Folkstyle is a detriment to wrestling. Folkstyle kills wrestling.
