I do not know why I hate this guy so much. I just clicked on the recap video for Final X, thinking I could get a good detailed run down. I have been a youth baseball all weekend, and I wanted a good match break down. It is Pyles and his kid on there. I am paying to see him and his kid breakdown matches now?

I do not know the pecking order of FLO, but why not make Mark Bader the face of FLO? Is Bader an executive? I only have FLO because it is in the only game in town on a lot of wrestling info. ie. Brackets etc. Rant over, I feel better.

You don’t have to pay for that, most of the recaps go up on YouTube right away

There are certain personalities that I turn immediately when they come on YouTube or whatever but I still can’t hate on them doing their thing…we aren’t really in a position to be picky about the coverage we get. Recruiting coverage is basically nonexistent and whatever we get out of the talking heads is better than nothing…might not be for me but that’s ok. Pyles and his kid are still better than others for more I’ll just say that…

He is an arrogant ass!     He acts like his opinion is superior to.all.the others on the podcast.   I like J.D. Rader but there are days he looks like he never showers or washes his hair.  Based is the best one on the podcast

Unfortunately there are a few of the “cool guy” types providing coverage. It’s doesn’t seem like it would be terribly hard to stand out in a relatively weak field. Flo could certainly be doing better than they are…they have the brand recognition.

I hate him because he is the most visible media personality in wrestling, yet he is completely incapable of any interesting insight, humor, or commentary that is at any risk of being unpopular. He's a husk at the forefront of a lazy company that has a captive audience it doesn't care about, and his presence is a constant reminder of that apathy.

Additionally his commentary is terrible, he announces it like its radio, constantly sees a move he can name and just says "good" before it ("good snap from XYZ), is obviously radically in favor of whoever the more famous wrestler is, calls them by their first names to imply their buddies despite the fact that I get more inside information than he does, crams huge amounts of words into tiny thoughts, and the most recent and annoying things i've noticed, you can tell when he's trying to impress everyone with his vocabulary because he badly over-enunciates whichever word he thinks he's gonna impress you with. He has all the worst qualities of a nerd without any of the positive ones.

Wrestling isn’t like the NFL, MLB and NBA where athletes, coaches and teams are contractually required to make themselves available to the media. Given how thin-skinned many in the wrestling world are (well-exemplified on these message boards), it’s pretty easy to see why Pyles and Flo have to toe the line and cool any hot takes at the risk of losing access.

thats all good points, i still think it represents a lethargy in the culture and promotion of our sport.

also about pyles, sitting him next to burroughs is a farce. It's like you were watching a baseball game announced by greg maddox and an extra from bull durham.

He's fine.  I don't like or dislike him.

Having his kid on is awful.  I don't watch their stuff often.  I saw that once and hoped it was a one time thing.  I guess it's not.

Pyles is one of, if not the most intelligent and great minds of wrestling. Caleb is a very good speaker for his age. It happens once a month maybe. It’s not that big of a deal, you’ll hear CP and the crew on the show tmw.

I saw them do a show after one of the days at NCAA I believe and thought “Oh cool that’s a good father/son moment for them” thing and all that…I did not see it had become a thing now.

I don’t know what’s going on with Flo…I’m very selective in my viewing of them…

It was a YouTube livestream from their hotel lobby... on Father’s Day weekend. I think you can find it in your heart to give him a pass on this one.

Aside from the seemingly primal need to disparage others, I think the majority of the discontent stems from some of you wanting/expecting “traditional media”, when that’s just not what Flo is… Flo is “new media” which is driven by engagement, not Nielsen ratings. New media is conversational and interactive. Traditional media is distributed and passive. Talking with you vs. talking at you. Targeted appeal vs. mass consumption. “Watch party” vs. strict play by play/color roles.

I think Flo does try to take a more “traditional media” approach with Final X, but it still has a Flo flavor of informality and personability. I don’t expect nor want Pyles to be Jason Knapp, who does a fine job with play by play at the Olympics, in a structured, systematic way required for network television broadcast. Comparing Flo’s coverage to NBC Sports’ is sort of like comparing Joe Rogan Experience to Meet the Press.

I agree with that. Too much novelty.

Flo overall does a good job with getting media out to stream. I do not like their production at times as it seems underdeveloped; I understand production takes that sweet lettuce though. I like their in-studio shows and continue to watch.

Thats fine as you know, but in good faith, on what do you base the idea that he's a great mind in general or in the context of wrestling?

If your answer is, "he takes way too much abuse from random internet bozos" I'd accept it.

I saw them in a pre NCAA FRL.  I hoped it was a one time thing.  Apparently it was not.

I could care less about traditional media.  I have no primal need to disparage anyone.  You are just building up a strawman to tear it down.

I am honestly indifferent to any of the folks there. It's not like they are broadcast journalists, media relations, or journalism majors . . . they're wrestling fans who Flo pays miserably but commensurate with their talent and experience. Hard to be mad at that, although bringing your kid in the mix for a Final X recap is pretty sophomoric (Disclaimer: I didn't listen to it, but I can't imagine it being awesome).

My subscription is for their event streaming and match library. . . if they could only get through one event without technical difficulties, I'd have little to complain about.

I get tire of the references to Buffalo Gap HS and what their favorite food establishment is..    You don't hear NFL or MLB talking about their own HS or.what they had for dinner

You sure do on a podcast that does over 100 episodes a year..
