The NCAA informed TCNJ that Mays has been stripped of his natty with the title being vacated.

No reason given (as of yet)...

Austin Meys

For some reason I couldn't post yesterday. And Austin has a brother named Hunter! (Meys not Mays). And it was a real frying pan.

Yeah I don't want to be cynical about it, there was certainly a bit of a parlor trick aspect to it.

Austin had been in a couple of world's strongest kid videos. The frying pan thing happened during a recruiting trip. They were taking him around the host wrestlers' apartment and got to the kitchen. They asked if he could roll it up. He did. Problem was it was a present from the mother of the one wrestler living there.

yeah despite the implications of my first comment, I'm not saying it was the equivalent of some social media stunt, vulgar attention seeking behavior, or in anyway disingenuous on his part, just that he needs a fairly specific pan to fold.

The reason given in the original release was that he was ruled ineligible.

“TCNJ Athletics has been informed by the NCAA that Hunter Mays, the 174-pound champion at the 2026 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, has been declared ineligible due to a violation of NCAA policy,” the statement released Wednesday morning read.

The NCAA policy he violated was use of banned substances (per quite a few wrestlers on the socials). Timeline makes sense for testing, testing secondary sample for confirmation, then going through the administrative process to rescind his title. Of course, he can always claim to have bigorexia and the courts will give him his title back.

Yes, but what did NCAA say...

If you’re waiting for the NCAA to come out and say that he popped for steroids, it’s probably not going to happen. TCNJ and Mays accepted the NCAA’s findings and any and all sanctions, so the NCAA doesn’t need to say anything, nor should they. It’s done and over with. NCAA tried to be transparent about punishments, and now it’s totally OK to bet on and against your own team.

“We remain committed to the principles of fair competition, accountability, and adherence to NCAA standards,” the statement said. “The actions of an individual athlete do not detract from the accomplishments of our student-athletes and coaching staff nor diminish the pride we have in our wrestling program.” TCNJ

Does anyone have an idea of why NCAA policy doesn’t allow for the other place winners to be elevated?

also, does anyone know if they are updating point standings? Last year I believe they updated points for Big 12s, but that may have been a conference decision, not an NCAA one. Thanks in advance.

IF 2nd beat 3rd at NCAAs, I think they should.  In this case the 6 seeded runner-up did defeat the 3rd seeded 3rd placer in the QF.

McDonough should be awarded Gold, in my eyes.

No waiting here. I was just curious about this...

NCAA didn’t make any announcement whatsoever. It was TCNJ who put out the press release saying they were informed by the NCAA he was being stripped, and TCNJ chose to leave it vague. I don’t disagree with them not providing details. That being said…

When I had to eliminate someone after the fact (I think twice in 20 years), the only team score updating I did was removal of points for that team.

Thank you, and I realize there I had a slip. I meant PAC 12 in that example.
