A bunch of Freshmen win NCAA D1 titles.

A bunch were All Americans - and some wrestled another Freshman in the Title match.

Has there ever been a better year of D1 wrestling for the First year wrestlers?

Wait until the holdback police look into that year

David Arndt of Oklahoma A&M capped off his career winning every NCAA title from 1941 to 1946 (and a Distinguished Flying Cross and six Bronze Battle Stars mixed in there)… he turned 25 the day after the 1946 tournament.

Legendary Bill Koll won his first of three in his undefeated career at age 22 at the 1946 tournament (after Normandy Landings and a Bronze Star).

Except Jax wasn't a freshman- he was a senior! 😀

Have to go with the “first year wrestler” qualification, since freshmen couldn’t compete on the varsity team until 1968.

Yeah… not sure of the particulars, just the AI-ish, generally accepted answer of 1968 (72 for football and basketball). I know Dick Hutton was a 4x finalist/3x champ from 47-50 (losing to Verne Gagne in 49), which goes against that.

No doubt best freshman year ever was 2026.

Three OK State Freshman finalists. Three champs. Forrest, Vega, Robideau.

Redshirt Freshmen making the finals-Davino, Valencia, Cody Merrill.

3rd placer(s) Sinclair, Duke, I'm sure that I missed a few

My point exactly

I purposely left out mention of WWII vets as they need to be mentioned. Even with their situation I think this past season we saw something that won't be done again soon.

I came here to start a thread on this topic, but it looks like you beat me to it @AgaveMaria (by a mere 2 weeks).

Here is my take.

How much wrestling discussion is happening on bluesky? Am I missing out?

Not a lot. But I am trying to change that.

In fairness, there doesn't seem to be much wrestling discussion on here lately either.
