Sergio Vega and Jax Forrest are both undefeated true freshmen.  Could one or both finish their careers as undefeated 4x champs?

I would say Jax could do it.  Vega I feel will take a loss or two along the way due to his low scoring style.

Under today’s rules would Carl even be undefeated ?   That loss would be in his record.

What are today's rules that would make a redshirt loss count in his record?  We don't count redshirt wins toward career record currently.

In your true frosh year.   Those can count no?

Mr. Caveira is a consistent poster, Jimmy.   Consistently wrong.

As to your original question, anything's possible.  I agree that Jax has a better chance than Vega.  However, I'd say the odds are pretty high against either of them becoming 4x undefeated champs.

That said, I'd like to see it and it'd be great for the sport.

they're a threat to Cael when they finish their junior seasons unbeaten.

Your point is valid, but Nolf (not including the injury match loss), Retherford, Mesenbrink (one more season) and others, never lost after their freshman season. If you are going to lose, odds are it is your freshman season. Even Cael lost one match his freshman year when he was redshirting. Vega's lack of offense works against him to go undefeated, and Jax's crazy style might make him susceptible to getting put on his back.

He lost in a tournament where he was unattached.  I believe only the 5 attached dates “count” now.

Your correct but the do the rules back then all his matches in Rs years would be unattached.  As per the new rules he may have been attached

Long way to go, but you can't be an undefeated 4x champ without getting it done the first year so it is at least something to keep an eye on

Yes, 20 yrs into his coaching career, long since retired from competition, Cael Sanderson sits awake every night stroking his Hodge trophies and whispering “My precious…” over and over thinking about those threatening undefeated freshman who might join his club…

This is gonna be a long off season with the pastry…🤦🏻‍♂️

Back then they were always attached

today some of those bouts would be attached.  For example possibly the Paul Jenn one

I don't know honestly, they still have three years to go. People now have time and footage to try to counter their style. There could easily be another Zain-Steiber type of match that happens out of nowhere. On the other hand, I can see it happening those guys are so damn hard to take down lol

A threat? Weird way to think about it. I don't think Cael is as lame as the 72 dolphins who celebrate being undefeated champs every year when the last undefeated team loses. "Threat" insinuates he would be mad someone else matched his feat.

Vega looks like he can get a lot stronger so I don't think he has even come close to his ceiling. Jax is a generational talent and is able to rise above whatever level his opponent brings to the table. Both have a good chance of running the table. However, injuries are real, the season is a crazy grind, and being "on" for every match as a 20 year old is not common. I'd pick Jax to be the better bet of the two, but wouldn't be surprised at either one of them pulling it off. The lower match count certainly increases the chances.

If the current rules existed back then his attached dates would have likely been used for duals and not tournaments

You're a fountain of misinformation, Mr. Caveira.  We all know that Sanderson was wrestling unattached at the Northern Iowa Open when Jenn beat him. Neither the rules then nor now can somehow turn that into an official loss - despite your ludicrous ex post facto attempt to do so.

But, since I really like you (despite your numerous misapprehensions), I'll give you first shot at buying my signed Cael Wheaties box before I list it on eBay.  PM me if you're interested.

Are the original wheaties still in the box, does it come with a glass of vintage milk, where do you think you'll set the reserve?
