I think he could’ve scored a couple more takedowns if opened up. Especially after Welch finally had to look for his own.

Looks like we’ll have 2 more years with this group.

I'm praying that this uber talented group doesnt become Storley/Brown/Kokesh/Perry/Evans and wrestle 1 takedown matches against each other for years on end.

I feel like it’s Rocco and Ferrari that bring the others down into a slog. When McEnelly and Sinclair wrestle, I think they’ll let it fly a little more.

McEnelly is a great athlete and class act.  Congratulations to him on a well-earned victory!

They all score against everyone else.  None of them score against each other.  It doesn't need to be anyone's fault.  They're all just excellent defensively.

I have to agree, the high level of defense of these wrestlers make it hard to score. I truly think he was still looking to score after he got the one takedown, but it is not an easy task with the level of competition. He even said so in his interview this afternoon at Minnesota.

Definitely earned his title!

Well, I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long for the next matchups between some of these guys.  The freestyle season is almost here!  Max is awesome and Sinclair has developed into one of my favorites too.  Both are really likable guys.

I think Mcenelly wrestled exactly how he should have. Unless you're someone like Messybrink where you know you can destroy this dude with your eyes closed you probably shouldn't be that reckless. There's never a guarantee you ever end up in the finals again be it from upset, injury, whatever, so wrestling smart is probably the best plan.

Excellent. I’m left wondering if Max is being sarcastic or trash talking.

Was wondering the same.  Max doesn’t talk a lot of trash, so maybe there’s something actually in the works here.

There are four elite wrestlers at this weight.  Let’s hope they all stay there as it will make for a fun couple years.  Max did what he needed to do to win this one. Get one td before OT.  Now that he has a natty he can open up a bit.

I could see Max opening up in a dual match (if he can), but in the national finals he did what he needed to do to win. Rocco didn't really get offensive until 30 seconds left so Max didn't really need to take a risk.

Rocco wrestled Angelo twice, both to TB, and Max twice once to TB and then the finals.  37 minutes of wrestling without getting a TD and only allowing the 1.     It's hard to get offensive when it hasn't been his style for 30 minutes of match time before.

They talked about this on FRL when talking about Barr. If you’re going for your first title, particularly against a guy like Merrill (or Welsh) score points and don’t give up any reattacks with reckless shots. Welsh and Merrill are great defensive wrestlers who mostly score on reattacks and would happy to go to ride outs.

Yup, and when you are in the hand fight, it can take so much out of you to where you don't know what it has tank is gonna be like until ur into the late 2nd or 3rd. So sometimes I think guys don't want to prevent the re attack but they also don't want to get gassed out from shooting.

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

So true.

And, at the same time, it's also the best strategy for every wrestler in every match.

If you have the skills - make the other guy catch up. Whatever skills he does or doesn't have will be revealed.
