Favorite for 3rd? That’s crazy talk. How can u be the favorite for 3rd when Ferrari is the possibly the only guaranteed point scorer at ncaas for them next year and he’s going to be #4 or 5 to start the season Gabe and Block have AA potential obviously but arent going to be putting up big points.

Williams got benched like 3 times this year and for the postseason I would bet he hits the portal . Keuter is supposedly going back to football next season. Deluca wrestled one match and hurt his knee and Lundington was really undersized and underachieved.

not saying Iowa can’t be a trophy team but as of this moment they have more holes and/or question marks in the lineup then sure things

125-Deluca - big recruit but no college experience. ??
133- Who knows. But losing a lot of points . Hole

141- Bailey- Regressed this year, could be high AA or 2-2 next season.??
149- Block- if he says at 149 I think he AAs again but not going to be in the top 4

157- Maybe Williams maybe transfers either way this weight is currently a black hole

165- No one on the roster I can see filling this spot. Losing a lot of points. Giant black hole

174- Arnold . Should be solid an AA contender but wrestles mostly 1 takedown matches, not a big point scorer.

184- Angelo. Hopefully he decides to actually wrestle next year and not stall for 6 and half minutes. Best guy in the lineup moving forward

197- Lundington. Big time recruit but really struggled on the mat and with finishing , visibly looked smaller than everyone he wrestled..??

285- Maybe Keuter but it’s been swirling around the Iowa page he’s going back to football, if he wrestles he can be in the mix but we don’t know if he ll be there. ???

3rd place this year had over 100 points I don’t see this roster coming anywhere close to 100 points. Who are the title contenders, who’s getting bonus points ?

I agree they’re not the favorite for 3rd right now but I think Angelo, Arnold (unless Mesenbrink moves to 174) and Keuter are all title contenders.

Angelo maybe but he’s still behind Macnelly ,Welsh and is right there with Sinclair

Arnold is never going to be a title contender at any weight , he’ll AA because he’s a tough SOB but he’s not gonna win a title at 174 or any other upperweight  wrestling like Jason Tsirtsis and he’s just not dynamic enough offensively

Keuter if fully healed from his hip injury I think can be a title contender but Iowa fans really think he’s going to try for football again so if he’s playing 2 sports he isn’t winning a title. If he’s goes all in on wrestling right now I could absolutely see him winning next season if he goes back to his aggressive style that won him a world title

Well Minto got to the finals wrestling like Jason Tsirtsis against the top guys and the guy that beat him is graduating.

It looks like Iowa is taking the place that Okie State held the past ~decade: a historic program that can always serve as a gatekeeper to the top tier, even on a down year.

Minto wrestles like that against Haines but went 4-1 at ncaas with 3 matches by tech/pin and then 5-1 in the semis. Gabe has 0 bonus wins against ncaa qualifers in his entire career.

PSU will once again decline the National Duals. OSU will probably win them. Iowa will finish 2-4 there.

People will bash PSU for notnattending the National duals

Iowa will be in the conversation of 3-5 with Nebraska, ISU, VaTech, tOSU.

Iowa will finish the season with 2-4 losses.

People will call for Brands to be fired.

Brands won't be fired.

NCAAs will roll around

PSU will win the team title by a solid but not massive margin

OSU will be in 2nd by a solid margin.

3rd THROUGH 5 will be a dog fight between the above mentioned contenders.

People will be saying OSU the next season will have a chance to knock off PSU.

The following season after that (2028) will be a dog fight between PSU/OSU similar to 2018 between PSU and tOSU.

PSU will win by a slim margin,

The season after that (2029) OSU will be the front runner by a narrow margin.

You forgot to mention that I will complain.

Not true.

Last year he teched TJ McDonnell of Oregon State who was a NQ (albeit with a losing record 🙂 ), he also majored Mikey Squires who was a NQ this year, and majored Devan Hendricks of Bellarmine who was a NQ this year.  This year he majored NQ’s Chase Kranitz of Pitt and Kade Rule of UTC.

Bottom line though is he can win just about any match he wrestles.  With Haines graduating (as well as Kharchla) I think it’s fair to consider him a title contender at 174.  Minto lost to Kennedy & Facundo this year, he is absolutely beatable.   The biggest question for 174 may be how good is Henckel.

Fair enough. I haven’t seen enough offense to believe in him winning 5 straight matches at ncaas but he’ll be in the mix and should be ranked top 5 at least going into next season

Henckel is the real deal. He beat a 3x D3 ncaa champ when he was still in high school. Only lost to Levi 4-0 this year who gave an interview talking very highly of him mid season.

I think Ruiz comes back real strong next year. Wask was a terrible matchup for him they are very familiar with each other and might have trained together growing up (not 100% on that) and lost a close one to Kharchla in the R12 no shame in that. He was undefeated going into ncaas

Stanford will be tough next year... Garvin, Norman and I believe Cardenas back as well. With a portal pickup at Heavy they will be a trophy contender.

Don't mind me, just daydreaming that Stanford had gotten Coby Merrill to stay in California. Heavy is big hole, but have never really seen Stanford actively recruit in the portal, but maybe times change...

Keuter himself back in October said he's plans to rejoin the football team this spring

Is anyone else hearing that yianni is supposedly going to Iowa city? I have had like 3 people tell me this. I'm sceptical

I am also skeptical on this, but I know Willie Saylor mentioned something on their podcast about it last week. With that said, I know he mentioned his sources were also Hawkeye message boards so I'm also skeptical of it.

With that said, I think Yianni would be a fantastic coach. He's had a tough time with injuries, which is incredibly unfortunate, but I feel like he'd do exceptionally well as a coach if he chooses that path for his next adventure.

Agreed ICEMan. I think he would be good for iowa, as long as brands are willing to learn from him as well. He could certainly help the scrambling abilities. But, we will see. I'm hear enough from different people to make me think that it more truth than rumor at this point. But I won't believe it until the brands announce it. (Things have a tendency to fall through last minute with hawks)

Just my opinion, but I think the timeline for coaching changes should be announced within the next week ahead of the Transfer Portal opening up. Especially if Iowa was to add Yianni to their staff. If I'm Brands or the AD at Iowa, I'd want that in place before April 1st.

I'm all for an April 1 announcement ... seems appropriate.
