You know, these games made me realize the value of great coaching Valencia was a second rate wrestler who had not won anything big until now. i don’t know when he switched to having DT as his coach, but DY turned a 28 year old second rate wrestler into a dominating world champion. imagine if Iran had coaches like that to coach all the kids who won cadets and U21. DT himself did not turn into a world beater until he was well into his 20s. Iran guys seem to peak at 20-21 and never improve their wrestling. I attribute that to lack of high level coaching. my choices for Iran national team coach are DT or Carl Sanders. Getting more realistic, my choices are Rassoul Kahdem, Reza Yazdani or Babak the Instagram announcer. i think Babak would be great because he know the US style of wrestling and mentality.

I, too, thought the runway was pretty clear for Spencer to win a World title this year, and he clearly puts a ton of pressure on himself, so my biggest worry is that this weekend's somewhat meaningless L will turn him into a head case. The sport has not been kind to Spencer when stakes are high, but then again, it's has not kind to 99.999% of us. For sure, small towns have plenty of loud mouths. The difference is when I was growing up, it was always a guy saying it straight to your face. The online trash talk just feels like a totally different thing. I also haven't lived in my hometown in over a decade though now so maybe (probably) the small town trash talk is on instagram and youtube now too. I guess I was just being hopefully nostalgic.

The only gaps, which I would have not predicted 39 months ago, is 97 and 125. I thought Trumble would take a leap after OTT and we don't know how to feel about Brooks at best. And Steveson was HEW. I'm more iffy on 125, but 57-92 is locked down and 97 is going to be a contender through this quad at minimum. Haines is a revelation so far at 79 where I think he is stuck unfortunately. We are solid.
