I think it's cause they go head to head with PSU for high school recruits, always lose, and instead of being patient like you referenced, they are using the transfer pool which has two big upsides, 1) proven in college, 2) PSU is likely not competing with them because they already had their picks and a solid lineup. Thats not an ethical argument for Iowa its just what shaped the landscape.

I feel like people confuse downey and ferrari. Downey has common criminal tendencies that make surviving a season very difficult, Ferrari is more of a ticking time bomb type. One way to put it is that Downey is more likely to go to jail and ferrari is more likely to go prison....the prison guy has a better chance of putting a season together!

In my mind burroughs coming back means one of two things. 1) His wife is annoying the hell out of him and he needs to get out of the house, 2) he's done the appropriate amount of soul searching and is highly motivated. The obvious retort would be that he was obviously as motivated when marstellar beat him last time, but I'm not sure thats the case. He was already locked on for last cycle, the decision to come back now, when a failed comeback could tarnish his legacy more than adding another world gold, makes me think he's doing it for the right reasons, and sense he's one of the best competitors we've ever had I assume he'll win.
