  1. Yeah fair enough, what if I said we're talking about reconciling our perceptions of their overall quality as wrestlers over time? You'd probably say thats an impossible conversation to ground appropriately, which is true, and I'd counter by repeating that sense results naturally trend upward (because people graduating is a factor), you providing mild evidence of an upward trend when it should be extreme is not convincing at all, and then we would repeat the process. I'll sigbet you on the placements of Mendes feldman and Bouzakis? voided by injury
  2. you're trying to leverage the fact that people graduate as improvement. only exception on the list is romero, snyder who they made go the wrong weight and stieber. But if you watch stieber's flo film he talks about how he used to skip practice and float off the last few pounds of his cut, which is incompetent coaching so I'm hard pressed to give the staff credit for him.
  3. If i didn't need to follow athletes at tournaments I wouldn't. I don't think they do anything for wrestling. There are big changes coming to college next year, potentially disastrous, and they have hardly mentioned them.
  4. I haven't read the original and would be grateful to see it
  5. this is a great point while also missing the point. When we argue about Iowa and tOSU we are doing fan mentality hair splitting, which is what we are here for, talks about the shortcomings of inconsequential programs are more closely tied to the problems the sport faces as a whole...and therefore difficult dreary and not that fun.
  6. Davis but now that you mention it cinnabon trying to transition from pure troll to thought leader has been a little embarrassing!
  7. no its not they all peak as freshmen i didn't say they couldn't recruit
  8. They REALLY don't develop talent.
  9. this isn't that topic, this is the "Iowa sucks" topic.
  10. the non existent person you are arguing with is reeling!
  11. yeah but its not racist to say there aren't anymore babylonians.
  12. i agree i don't know where that comes from, especially in the context of my post
  13. a wrestler synonymous with not developing but ok!
  14. that was a bizarre answer
  15. I kind of agree (but I don't because you are talking about a high school match against someone on one leg, and he didn't place at drexel), but in the same breadth are you willing to admit that the Desanto who graduated was a way better citizen than the one who showed up? Developing him as a person is part of coaching, and despite the fact that he did cringy stuff at Iowa too, it definitely became less and less of a factor.
  16. I just want to say he's having a little bit of a rough year so far, and not living up to some people predictions, but I think he's gonna have it together by march!
  17. You don't understand what I mean. When they say "develop talent" the implication is "compared to penn state."
  18. Iowa is the only program that gets meaningfully compared to Penn State.
  19. A headline can be a little inflammatory and no one will panic. "Ono is one of the best wrestlers on earth right now", "Which Penn State Wrestlers COULD be upset on friday". If you want clicks how about some hot takes and not a bunch of lame qualifications for every statement. If you think I'm a nit picky jerk fine, unfortunately I'm permanently annoyed our most prolific media outlet produces such lame content.
  20. gotta ask for the receipts on these percentages....
  21. its definitely possible
  22. when is something interesting said?
  23. Imagine you're recruiting a kid that you have to pitch as, "like ferrari but not that good"
  24. Cinnabon now running from his previous Davis predictions....
  25. this topic has happened before....and there is a tournament actually scheduled where it happens.
