  1. I’m not a big greco fan — what’s the consensus on his all time status? Would another gold elevate him above Karelin in most people’s minds? Is he already at that level of accomplishment?
  2. Iowa and OkSt could combine rosters and still not beat Penn State in a dual this year. And honestly, I love it. Watching this level of dominance is as exciting to me as a competitive team race. And besides, the team race for #2 is still competitive!
  3. RS then he should go 165 and MM 174. Following year he moves up to 174.
  4. When’s the last time someone had a 100% bonus at the end of a regular season? I can’t remember anyone doing that in the last decade. The fact that not one but two wrestlers this year hit that mark tells me it’s a consequence of the 3 point take down (and maybe limited schedules too). Still incredibly impressive. What’s the highest bonus % after NCAAs in the wrestlestat era? Low 90s?
  5. Based on what? Not sure how you can make a case for Ramirez, Hall, Barraclough, and Caliendo being inferior p4p wrestlers to Kerk, Wyatt, Trumble, and Shultz, etc. Based on the size of the talent pool alone, HW is a considerably weaker division than the lighter weight classes.
  6. Is Ayala wrestling? Thought I read he’s injured. 125 Lilledahl dec Cruz 3-0 133? Ayala dec Davis (if he’s not injured?) 3-3 141 Bartlett dec Rhodes 6-3 149 SVN dec Parco 9-3 157 Kasak Dec Teemer 12-3 165 MM Dec Caliendo 15-3 174 Haines dec Kennedy 18-3 184 Starocci MD Arnold 22-3 197 Buchanon dec Barr 22-6 HWT Kerk dec Kueter 25-6
  7. If this team stays healthy it’ll break the point record from last year. Might even have 10 AAs.
  8. Zain squeaks it out for several reasons that are aren’t captured in the data. I heavily weigh wrestling as a true freshman. Two of his three losses were to the defending 2x national champ, who would go on to win 4 and become an all time great. Taylor is similar in this aspect. Also, a 94 match win streak is just incredible.
  9. This thread seems to be geared towards that, yes. I was responding to a post that mentioned the inclusion of freestyle.
  10. I think Dake has beaten 8 multiple time national champions, which is just insane. Valencia, Imar, Nolf, Taylor, Cox, Burroughs, Dieringer, Cenzo,
  11. They should bump a few folks up. Would pay dividends as the season progresses. 125 LL 133 Davis 141 Nagao 149 BB (RS Kasak) 157 SVN 165 Messenbrink 174 Facundo or Haines 184 CS 197 Barr HW Kerk
  12. Haines over O’Toole. Will face Carr for 3rd. Keegan had a disappointing tournament.
  13. Carter is apparently coming back for #5. I wonder if Facundo considers transferring. Penn St. is clogged with talent.
  14. Starocci just announced he’s coming back. Does Facundo transfer?
  15. 18 individual national championships between the six of them. That has to be a record.
  16. I favor a healthy Yaz against Brooks, though I’m not sure we’ll see him in the Olympics. Brooks is an incredible wrestler, but frankly that was the worst DT we’ve seen in nearly a decade.
  17. Dake outclassed him last they wrestled. JB’s success against Dake is largely due to the old tournament design, where Dake had to wrestle multiple matches the same day. It’s not a coincidence that when they’ve been on even footing, Dake has been more successful.
  18. Taylor isn’t that far off. 1-2 more golds. Though I suspect he retires this year, win or lose, maybe even tomorrow night.
  19. No. Taylor wrestles tomorrow.
  20. Brooks went undefeated including a Big 10 championship and ended with a 90% bonus. He’s the Hodge winner, period.
  21. Brooks has been ridiculously impressive this tournament. If (big IF) he were to TF/F Hidlay, it would be one of the most impressive tournament performances I’ve seen. Who’s the last wrestler to win every match at NCAAs by fall or TF? I can’t think of anyone recently.
  22. I think you’re forgetting what the mindset of these kids is at 17-18 years old. Most aren’t thinking about career opportunity, debt, salary, etc. They are instead consumed with wrestling. Decisions are based on what will improve their chances of winning national and world titles. Most are overconfident and even delusional. I suspect the Ivy education is more enticing to the parents than the athletes.
  23. Depends on the style. I give Starocci a slight edge in folk but Brooks appears to be the better FS wrestler.
