  1. I would guess he does this for every commit. Does he really distinguish between the "big" commits and lessor hyped ones? That would be odd and kind of disrespectful to not be hyped after someone, regardless of recruiting ranking, just made a major life decision to come wrestle for you.
  2. I am fine with the 3 pt TD, I don't think it will change much as far as how the product on the mat looks but the scores will look different. More bonus points and the potential for greater comebacks if someone gases. Maybe a guy like Nagao could be impacted a little, but they can still choose top and get turns. RT point. I think the goal was to disincentives guys from just riding to ride not to incentives guys to turn. Current mat wrestling is a terrible product to watch (and I like mat wrestling) so something needs to be done. It seems simpler to just require Top to have to work for a turn and CALL STALLING, but probably minimal impact and maybe the ankle riders will just cut Bottom now. 2 pt, 3 pt, and 4pt NF. Makes sense and is easier for causal fans to follow. Overall, a good set of proposed rule changes.
  3. LOL. - Offering any wrestler (a non revenue sport) $250K doesn't make sense so regardless of whether it make sense or not to offer $250K for 1 year, that is the market. The only schools Bernie seemed to have interest in/take visit were the only schools with the wherewithal to offer a significant financial package. Did he pick PSU for $25K less and the opportunity to join NWLC post college, maybe, was it 6 figures less, HAHAHA. Maybe he really did pick PSU for the grad school too or he just likes the weather in State College better than Cali. Additional LOL for suggesting he is not an immediate title contender.
  4. As a fan of the team race, this is disappointing. I understand if from Bernie's perceptive and best of luck to him. LOL at anyone suggesting PSU didn't offer a financial package comparable to $250K. That propaganda is only being pushed out there so the other 9 PSU starters don't expect a similar deal.
  5. Iowa fan talking about who went to prison... Making AJ feel welcome already
  6. Luke Smith still has eligibility?? Man, these extra Covid years are crazy.
  7. On Basch's pod. He stated 2 weeks ago he wasn't thinking about it. He said he entered to complete his goal of winning 3 titles, world and Olympic titles and that could include staying a MN. Did not say what has changed since being at MN. They then went out of the way to say "no one has offered him a bag of cash." Like all previous transfers, he is doing it to find the right fit and it has nothing to with the money.
  8. Before Spencer's MFF, I don't recall very many negative comments about him, even from non hawkeye fans. He always seems beloved by all. But I also don't take "why did Lee only win 8-0" as a negative comment even though Yianni has never had the same level of scrutiny so that could be the difference. What stuck out to me was how aware of message board/on line comments he pays attention to. I can't imagine anyone on Iowa's campus actually says the things he was complaining about to his face so I would guess it only comes from being on line. I would think that would be fairly easy to turn off, unless he seeks it out to use as motivation. Regardless, glad he gave the interview and opened up.
  9. I understand why the natives are getting defensive about the Tulsa. It was fine. But if you ask us to compare it to other NCAA host cities, then you will get compared to Cleveland, Philly, StL, KC next year, etc. Overall it is not a knock on your city, but there are things that are not on par with other recent host cities. It doesn't mean there wasn't any good food or drink options, just not as many or convenient as others. The arena certainly needs a upgrade. If it goes back to Oklahoma, OKC in 2014 was better in my opinion than Tulsa.
  10. I doubt they land any of them with the rumor Gable could come back. It would be dumb to transfer and then have to ride the bench.
  11. Garrett Grice, 133 at Virginia, #54 on Willie's 2022 Big Board in the portal
  12. It's crazy to me that this is a rule that needs to be added.... 100% Yes! I think folk style will be better with a pushout rule, ideally TD would be changed to 3 points and pushout point = 1 to encourage guys to finish the single leg as opposed to just running guys out of bounds but you have to start somewhere. I don't think it would be terrible if it was both feet out (for pushout point) either but willing to see how whatever gets implemented plays out.
  13. Exactly. For the record, I meant to type one OF the best but I like your phrase of uniquely dominate which illustrates my thoughts better. It's okay that people value different criteria in these arguments, but to pretend there is no context is silly. For example @headshuck (as I understand his argument) likes Steveson because he was physically/athletically more dominate/rarely challenged and doesn't put as much weight on pins. I can respect that. I just put more emphasis on pinning/TF and pinning guys quickly. Steveson was physically and athletically dominate but Lee had a unique ability to end matches very quickly. David Taylor's 2012 NCAA tournament was the most dominant (as I value "dominate") that can I recall and that will probably always distort my opinion on his career. Lee Kemp was before my time but I understand and respect why someone who saw him wrestle might claim he was better.
  14. #5 is interesting that they included the "AND". It would seem to only apply to Shane Griffith? Carr, Mekhi and AJ Ferrari all past champs with eligibility but they are previous UWW medalist so don't need #5.
  15. Umm, this is the internet. This kind of reason and logic are not looked kindly around these parts.
  16. WHAT?!? Spencer wasn't undefeated. OMG this changes everything. I said what I said and answered the question the OP asked. If you want to rank him differently or provide your own opinion, feel free. I won't lose sleep if you don't think Spencer is one of the best.
  17. Pretty sure Steveson did compare himself to Lee when they split the Hodge and he leaned Spencer. No issues if you want to disagree but Steveson didn't have the same bonus rate as Spencer and certainly didn't end as many matches in the 1st period against All-Americans. It was almost surprising if someone even made it to the 3rd period against Lee, I never thought that when watching Steveson.
  18. He was the most dominant wrestler I have ever personally seen. He bonus pointed almost everyone he faced, including pinning and tech falling guys who have won NCAAs. He had an injury plagued career and still won 3 Titles. If you want to rank the 3 timers by where they finished when they came up short, then just copy and paste the list. The bottom line is we may never see anything like him again at the college level. To me, he was one the best to ever do it regardless of credentials.
  19. I hope Bernie decides to go HWT and finishes 4th next year to complete the Bizzaro Dake. 4th place, 4 years at 4 different weights. 4th @ 174 in 2021, 4th @ 184 in 2022, 4th and 197 in 2023...4th @ HWT in 2024!!
  20. We had this debate a little pre NCAAs and it didn't seem right that 1 guy could choose neutral and win on the RT point, but I have changed my thoughts on it and am now fine with the rideout rule. Its not like these matches are 8-8 after 9 minutes since guys who put up 8 points typically don't go another 2 without a score. It's the 1-1, 2-2 matches that go to rideouts and at that point I am fine if you lose a coin flip or strategy battle. You had 9 minutes.
  21. Hindsight is 20/20. Coming into the tournament, Ramos was pinned by Lee in the 1st period the previous meeting and Ramos didn't make the B1G semifinals 2 weeks earlier. There was no guarantee he would make the semis at NCAAs. Perhaps Lee should gameplan more, but there is no way Spencer can gameplan for everyone as much as they plan for him. Also Lee was up 7-4 and on top in the 3rd, he wasn't unprepared, Ramos kept wrestling and hit his move and deserves all the credit.
  22. First the Hodge gives out 2 trophys in the same year and now all 10 champs are finalist?!?! Hodge is getting softer. What's next, a non champ gets nominated? I mean Carr was 2-1 vs O'Toole, you could argue he a better year. ONLY KIDDING. (But I do think the 10 finalist is dumb).
  23. I assume they are sticking with Freestyle because that is how the women colleges do it now and Iowa is technically just joining the existing format. As far as converting from folk to free style that is how it is currently done so that really isn't new. But if men and women were competing in the same style, you could use the same refs/rules for back to back mens/womens duals; easier practice schedules for teams that have both, and even have them in the same tournaments (scuffle/midlands, etc.) and save on travel expenses. It could lead to more D1 womens teams.
  24. Question on Oly Redshirts.... It is my understand that USA Wrestling (a separate entity than the NCAA) determines the criteria for who is eligible to take an Oly Redshirt. My questions is under what authority can USAW impact the NCAA eligibility rules? And if there was some rule/law passed by the NCAA that deferred that authority to USAW, could USAW have determined that everyone who competed in 2020 season was deemed to have been an Oly Redshirt so that the seniors wouldn't have lost a year of eligibility? Still weird to me that some guys only got to compete in 3 NCAAs and others are getting 5. Heck Daton Fix can probably take another Oly year next year and still be eligible to compete at NCAAs in 2 years at the age of 27.
  25. I thought I heard Alirez was taking one.
