Where will that rascal AJ end up?
kschlosser replied to The_KC_Godfather's topic in College Wrestling
Only fans, webcamming, and other forms of pornography or pimping could provide for some good earnings for an opportunistic young fast twitching Italian stallion, alpha male type, with a fast car, mullette, and a fine stache. -

So are you alleging or implying that Bastida is or was the alleged father of the love child aj was allegedly planning on raising or will be raising as his own with his former, current, or future fiancee? -

Would it be a plot twist if it was not his baby? Perhaps he just likes pregnant people and broke it off before they gave birth? -
Kind of like the covid seniors in 2020. Thanks, sorry, good luck

Given the historical support the ladies have received from the WCAP program I am surprised it hasn't happened already. Might have to wait three years to get more support from Washington and the Pentagon as that doesn't seem to fit the current priorities or agenda.

FBS, Division 2 and division 3 athletic departments don't carry the spending weight of division 1 football and basketball or revenue sharing. It is said that only 20-30 schools are profitable and the rest are using student fees, donations, and creative accounting to keep their budgets afloat. It has long been said the revenue from those sports subsidize the losses of women's and non revenue sports Focusing on enrollment and tuition gives non division one schools the opportunity to expand. With enrollment dropping in recent years, athletics and unique degree tracts allow them to market themselves and cover the entire universities bills.

The NCAA has a contract with ESPN til 2032 to broadcast every sanctioned sports championship less mens basketball and football. They will have to air under current contract. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2024/1/4/media-center-espn-and-ncaa-reach-new-eight-year-media-rights-agreement.aspx Wrestling championships can air on any of their networks. I think putting wrestling on abc would bring in more eyes, they aired the Boston bruins vs Detroit redwings NHL game this year. Personally I watched everything on ESPN plus except the finals I watched on ESPN because the app was time delayed. I love matcast and ability to have dedicated channels for each mat. I have an 84 inch on matcast and drag in the 65, a laptop, and phone available for individual mats

Shorten the season was one of five options I tossed out not the only one. It could be part of an alternative or it could stand alone. Length of current NCAA division 1 season is below. If you figure out when you want it to end you can decide when you want it to start keeping the same length or you can change that. First day of practice 10/10/25 First day of competition 11/1/25 Last day of championships 3/21/26 College season was 162 days Competition season was 140 days Knowing when you want to start and end could allow schools, nwca, conferences, tournament organizers, etc how to set schedules. Could be more dual tournaments, tris, quads, pool tournaments to maximize matches, or it could be the same just different dates, whatever I have no answers, but that doesn't mean I don't have questions or am willing to look at alternatives. As stated just looking for discussion

I know that the timing of the NCAA wrestling season has been discussed multiple times in this millennium but the only thing that has been done is talk. At the same time other sports, mens and womens basketball and football, have expanded their postseasons and are looking to do so again. Add in NIL, revenue sharing, roster caps, and rising tuition costs have affected every student athlete and sports program to some degree. Is now the time to seriously reconsider making wrestling a one semester sport to make our postseason land after basketball, to start earlier to position its completion before or after football and before basketball, shorten the season, run a split championship with a dual and individual championships? Just throwing out points of previous discussions to current times with an eye on the future. Personally I think more high school and youth wrestlers would pay more attention if part of the season got away from their schedule as they are focusing on what they are doing moreso than what colleges are doing. duals could see an attendence bump and perhaps television eyes when not competing against their own practices and competitions Would making changes help the sport grow or at least give us a spotlight of our own? I don't have answers, only questions. Changes are coming in athletics around us, I hope continuing to stand still doesn't hurt us. Tossing this out for off-season discussion. https://sports.yahoo.com/mens-college-basketball/article/despite-the-outcries-against-it-ncaa-tournament-expansion-will-happen-heres-why-thats-the-case-135942077.html

College Wrestling Participation Stats

Bumped for relivence with former158 post from today. Someone knew something. -
Maybe Carl and other coaches should take a page out of dabbo swinneys playbook instead of taking veiled shots at anonymous Boogeymen and keeping everything going on in the shadows. I say that as someone that doesn't really like dabbo but respects him more because of his courage to bring things into the light. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/47708737/swinney-slams-ole-miss-hypocrisy-calls-school-whole-other-level-tampering Edited to add screw Clemson for dropping wrestling 30 some years ago. Actually had some of their former wrestlers impact my life growing up

When I was media I spent a decade flying through Minneapolis on my way to events in Vegas. Seemed like at least once a year I was waiting for a flight and had some great conversations with j rob. He was insightful about every level of the sport. Those conversations helped to push me from reporting to coaching and those kids I worked with got the benefit and in turn so did I. Thanks. RIP coach

True that NIL gets split evenly at PSU?
kschlosser replied to Doublehalf's topic in College Wrestling
That gets ignored a lot. LoL -
I don't know how much we can count on past rules when they seem to be written on swiss cheese with lots of holes and easily consumed by the courts. seems these days if they are wanted or not by a school, a judge can issue an injection or rule on the case in their favor which triggers a series of time consuming extensions. Find an alumni or sports fan supporting judge and you can get rolling on Monday. At this point I am assuming athletes are eligible until the appeal judge says no

The 3-Point Takedown - Folkstyle's Sea Change
kschlosser replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
So with the introduction of the three point takedown, should we have increased the stalling penalties to 1-2-3-DQ to encourage more action earlier from the idling wrestler or to stop someone from sitting on a lead? Am I just hung up on a single theory of analysis, misreading the data, or letting my personal biases confound WKNs work? -
Most likely graduating NCAA all American to start MMA
kschlosser replied to WrestlingPhD's topic in College Wrestling
I would assume Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff had and have a lot of influence on that given their "professional" wrestling backgrounds. Given it's broadcast on Fox Nation, it is also being directly marketed to a conservative base, who have historically supported "professional" wrestling in greater numbers. They are creating a sports entertainment product to appeal to their core demographic and existing subscribers. -

The monster was a two-time national champ and three time All American Buckeye, not a Cowboy. RIP Kevin -

Cesar Alvan 3rd place at 165 - WTF is this guy?
kschlosser replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
I didnt realize doc stankowitz, sp for me too if we're talking about the same person, came with him from new york. Not sure if he is still at ohio state but pretty sure he was around for Ryan's first decade. Good guy for the mental side of wrestling. Charles griffin was a guy that I think stayed at Hofstra a year after Ryan left and was a three time AA I think. I think dad Patrovich was the first pride AA in the seventies and the older brother Mike AA ed before he left and pretty sure Ryan AA ed after he transferred to Hofstra from his lone year and ACL injury in Columbus. That was 20 years ago and I'm old -
How exactly do you peak for wrestling?
kschlosser replied to Not creative name's topic in College Wrestling
Peaking can be weight management and conditioning peak. With today's nutritionists, dieticians, and training it may not be the issue was in years past but if you cutting you want to be peaking and not ground down by weight mismanagement. As an example, J. Jaggers was cutting at 149 as a freshman after strength training to bulk up for college. Had a great season for a true freshman and probably an AA contender. He blew his elbow out at big tens in his semi against schlatter in a 4-1 loss. He lost a 2-1 decision at the scuffle to Schlatter who went on to win NCAAs. He managed his weight from begining of season to his last Sunday at northwestern After surgery and rehab, he cut to 141 for the team with Lance Palmer and Jason Johnstone fighting it out at 149. Managed weight semi well but was cutting twice as much. He tore his ACL at big tens but was able to place seventh at NCAAs. After surgery and rehab, he cut to 141 again and won both of his titles. Weight management and cutting was an issue both years as the season went on. Each year in college he added 5-8 pounds to his walk around weight making each years cut because of off-season rehab and a few concussions limiting training. I think jaggers ended with 8 and 11 losses as champ. He never missed weight as an upperclassman but you could watch him struggle with first and second round or duals that started at 125. He had some ugly or head scratching losses that you could blame on weight management. Both years he came around in march, but he continued to train through nationals and was primed to peak at NCAAs. JD Bergman's senior year moving up to heavyweight, his three losses were all to NCAA champ Dustin Fox who was cutting to make 285. Dual, Big Ten, NCAA. His weight fluctuated in all three matches by something around 25-30 pounds. He was trying to figure out where he needed to be to peak mentally and physically to take on the mountain. He made finals and wrestled his best match against Fox 4-2 in overtime This was a guy that easily sweat off 8-12 pounds a practice, adding mass in season was a challenge. This year everyone thought Bouzakis would struggle cutting to 125. He lost to McCrone in November and was pretty much building steam til big tens, with a single OT loss to the eventual champ in the dual. Credit volk for the upset at b10, as it wasn't as big of an upset when he AAd in Cleveland. I don't know Nick not AA ing was related to the cut but would speculate five months might have been too much. Like Jaggers he was not a beast every time they started at 125 so I would question his recovery after weigh-ins cause he looked much better wrestling later in duals. He was a 2 seed at b10, a 3 seed at ncaa, and ended season without placing. Maybe I'm right about weight management, maybe I'm wrong. Jaggers went down, Bergman went up, and Bousakis went down with better or modern training methods. All were working to peak in March; Jaggers was an AA with a torn ACL, and a 2x champ, Bergman a 4x AA and finalist, Bouzakis has two more years to figure out his weight and peaking in March. I just about wrote an article there, sorry for rambling along. -
Kurt McHenry racial & SA allegations at psu?
kschlosser replied to Caveira's topic in College Wrestling
Depending on where I was I found a wet suit or a dry suit or a wetsuit and a dry suit under sweats and a sweatshirt worked well enough for me except that time I screwed up a scantron test because the sweat kept leaking out my sleeve. I blamed the smears on a super hard eraser on my number two pencil. I made weight that night but had to retake the test the next day. I won by major and got a B.
