Please reference where I said being undefeated was the standard big guy? You seem a bit slow. The POINT I was making is that Sonnen...he's funny, he talks a good game about having never lost a match and it's a nice little joke, but in reality...he was a guy known for what? Having some good losses. 49-31. 29-15-1 in UFC. Kinda just a guy without his mouth(which...good for him dude was clever as shit). It IS more impressive than his Wrestling career. 2 Silver's in the PAC-12's. Silver Medal in the University World Championships the year he took an Olympic RS and was the 3rd rated Greco in the US. Follows that up with an 0-2 barbecue to two...mediocre Wrestlers(to be generous) in the next NCAAs. Remind me again how well Greco guys do at the NCAAs? So no, the point was never that you had to be undefeated. It was the preponderance of evidence that Chael...while right that Greco guys ARE the inferior athlete, they're not DOING better in MMA...though to be fair, he said he had a "theory" that they did better...so I guess he never actually states it. A couple guys in the early years had success...the sport has been dominated by those Wrestling "Women's Style," or the "not real Wrestling," since then.

The "UNDEFEATED" Chael Sonnen thinks so? I do like how he qualifies it with the "Greco Roman was viewed as the 2nd tier athlete. We'd push back, but yeah, in my heart, that's exactly what it was." Then he goes on to explain...he went into Greco because he knew he couldn't hack it in Freestyle. I do love how his BEST example is a...Brock Lesnar fight! He's got a nice little theory...there's just one GIANT problem with it. How many guys who wrestled at that level just...never Wrestled Greco? Never Wrestled ANY Greco? Maybe that's a lot now. As I've said, you used to Wrestle Greco to improve the superior style of Wrestling. "Greco is best to teach you how to NOT get thrown." -Former HOF Coach. Same guy who hooked me up with a few of the best Greco Wrestlers who...couldn't hack it in College. How many of the guys who've dominated in the last 10 years from the Wrestling world have been Greco guys vs Freestyle guys? Johnny Hendricks, Cejudo..Khabib certainly comes from a Wrestling background. Certainly not a Greco one. So it's a nice theory from the guy who(I guess along with Khabib) left the sport having NEVER lost a single round or fight(despite...15, 17 losses, whatever it was)...but it kinda fails under further examination. But, as he says, it's a theory. One that I think fails any much scrutiny.

What top wrestlers left eligibility on the table?.
scourge165 replied to Threadkilla's topic in College Wrestling
Caveat, rule, it was always gonna screw someone. They just got screwed more than most. Especially those two. 1/2/21 and 1/1/2/1 are two guys who are goats. Not Hall is "just" a one time champ and Joseph in the long list of 2X Champs. -

Right...but THEY'RE last year was the 2019-2020 season. So then...that's not applicable to them, is it? They competed in four FULL seasons. I can't help you any more here. I just can't. It's like me trying to explain to LBJ I don't care about Greco. Their seasons were cut short. They got the raw end of the deal. So...now I'm done because I've given you the answer numerous times and you don't believe me and I don't really care at this point? Believe they had eligibility or that they didn't. Makes no difference to me. Strange they wouldn't have come back for NIL money and to win another NCAA Title, but I guess they just didn't care enough -
Yeah...what old boy who never wrestled here doesn't get...it's a whole helluva lot harder to toss someone...IF THEY CAN TOUCH YOUR ***duck duck goose** LEGS! LOL...you ever go watch Wrestling with someone and they have no real idea? It's kinda like a FB fan. Even if you played in HS, you don't understand the actual speed of the game. So you sit there and talk about how easy if they just...ya know, TRIED the "manly" style! It's funny. The best in the sport NOW are all Freestyle guys or "leg grabbers." Why wounldn't MMA be dominated by Greco dudes if it were just SO easy? Why doesn't dad throw them in there? I mean, it's SOOO easy and while these inferior...not really worthy styles of Wrestling are dominating, you'd think Cejudo, Johnny Hendo, Wood, Chael(and SOOO many more) would have been Greco guys?

Ok....well, that shows me nothing and I don't really care, this isn't about Sheets, it's about Hall and Joseph and they just DID NOT leave eligibility on the table. (Ok, you initially posted a table that had nothing in it...like Excel without any entries)...just for context. Do you understand 2020 was counted as a year toward your eligibility? If so, that was their FOUR year(both of them). So what good would a RS year have done for Hall? He could be a 5th year RS with zero eligibility remaining? I don't know what's up with Sheets. My GUESS looking at his career and how he never wrestled for Okie State the first two years, maybe he wasn't enrolled in 17. Then 18=RS year. '19-1 year '20-2 year '21-3 year '22-3 year '23-4 year I don't know. But I'm positive about the PSU guys(and...the B1G guys in particular). -

Yeah...it does jive. As you said, he redshirted the first year. So now he gets 2021(free) 2022...and I don't know why the hell he's Wrestling now...I'd guess Medical RS, but it has nothing to do with Hall or Joseph. They weren't given a free year for 2020. There was no free year until 2021. So they'd wrestled and completed FOUR years...and that was all you got until this little Covid thing where they inexplicably gave guys the NEXT year a free year. You're going to be able to point out how others got 5 shots at NCAAs and some guys wrestled until they were eligible for Medicare. Doesn't matter. They were both pre-covid and they both used up all 4 years. Really...trust me or wait until someone else jumps in, but they didn't leave eligibility on the table. They both exhausted it. Both had 4 full years...per the NCAA. Which sucks, but it jives. -

Hall didn't have time remaining, he used it all up. 4 years and his final year was 2020. Now free year, just...a sad finish for a 3 time finalist. Pretty sure Joseph was just...the same situation but a year older. Meaning he took a RS and then was a RS Freshmen when Hall won it. So Hall went 1/2/2-2020 canceled, no free year Joseph went RS/1/1/2-2020... And if you've used up your 4 years...which 2020 was considered a year, a RS can't do anything. -
Yeah...that's true, but he was damn close a couple times in the 1st period as well. I thought that was the extent of the excitement that match would bring. Obviously...I was wrong.

Yeah...I get it. You're a SUPER-DUPER proud Dad...so you feel like you know something! It's cute actually. What a little fanboi you are! You remind me of those girls outside the boybands concert! Christ, you actually might be proving the "Visionquest" theory Mr. Webster has with your...comments about Datunashvili to be correct after all. Don't know, don't care. Spent years with actual Olympians working on the sport while you...watched(literally). It's nowhere near as impressive as Freestyle. You can continue to "teach" me about the current landscape, but...I mean, if I gave a shit, I would have KEPT following it, don't ya think? Instead of just being bored to teers. Tell me you're that guy who believes Karelin went like...a decade without losing, much less getting scored on because...da Google says so!
-
This...is 12 hours old, so I hope I don't look like an asshole, but that's exactly what I thought about Iowa State...and then O'Toole has that Askren arrogance(which he has earned).
-
There's no angle. The only par terre I saw was when they gave a point. I started it where you left off...and I was as unimpressed when I actually wrestled it. But hey, you go WATCH the sport and tell me more! I mean, of course don't. I have literally no respect for you or anything I know of you.
-
So...just curious. You think it was "gay" to point out how ***duck duck goose** huge Shute was? I'll just finish up with...just because a "lot" of other people wrote similar pieces about Vision Quest...doesn't make it any more ridiculous. This is just an arrogant, obnoxious, more sophisticated version of "Wrestling is gay, you roll around in tights with guys." Not much more than that.
-
Jesus Dude...that car looks like it has tits and vagina's for backseats with the song playing over it by...the whoever Sisters talking about wanting to find a man and...you STILL find some obscure bullshit where someone finds something gay about it? And I don't have the first goddamn clue what this has to do with Wrestling? I feel like you're trying to normalize being Gay...and we've done that(and done that...and done that...and done that...see if you can find a show without MULTIPLE Gay couples without subscribing to that...Kirk Cameron Godflix thing). If there's a closet you're in, that's fine dude. Seriously...that's ALL on you to decide when you wanna come out of it. Just stop trying to drag EVERYONE else into that same closet. I mean...I'll say high through the door, but I'm good on my side of it!
-
You're doing too much here bud. I'm not sure what you're inferring here with this very timely video, but isn't that a song about a women wanting a man and a dude just working on a car by himself? Screw...lets say that's just straight up Gay Porn... I'm STILL not sure how that'd strengthen YOUR point? Dude, if YOU'RE Gay, that's...fine. Couldn't care less. This weird projection though...that I never get. People always try to project this shit onto other people. Is it insecurity?
-
Christ...I don't think anyone could have picked a better starting point to make MY point about Greco. Your video there starts at the second half. Pushing, pushing, hand-fighting...nothing more. Point for nothing, whatever the hell that TD was! I also appreciate how attractive you think he is. The stopping of the match because of that HORRIBLE lip injury though...it just shows the sheer brutality! Greco is a good sport to Wrestle...so that you can learn hand-fighting, how to throw...most importantly, how to NOT get thrown...and then you should be done with it when you focus on...REAL Wrestling. The shit everyone actually cares about.
-
Yeah, I got it...that's why I mentioned him. There are no "locks." I think of Metcalf first, but going back further, Mcllravy in his quest for 4, Larry Owings...there was another Larry with a huge upset.

Steve Marianetti

Cool. I'll be ignoring it just like I have since I graduated HS.
-
Then think about me not caring. Also think about finding the shift button on your keyboard.
-
Well...I don't know about that, but IF Glory makes the finals, he's the guy who can do it.
-
Kerkvliet exists....
-
Is there some way to put an annoying old guy on ignore here? Do I really have to keep listening to babble on and on about something he's only ever watched? Dude, you're a Soccer Mom, but it's Greco. I hope you're not like this with women and you pick up on that hint a BIT faster...
-
Holy ***duck duck goose** dude...3 straight posts. Yeah, you're DEFINITELY not the guy who can't take a hint! Can you show me that SUUUUPER exciting match where the Greatest Greco Wrestler of all time gives up his first points in a decade(though...they of course weren't) because he...adjusts his hands! "REAL Wrestling."
