  1. We gotta start getting our terminology right. Revenue Sharing. The schools that opt in to the “program” HAVE TO share a certain percentage of their revenue with the athletes. Think it’s in the 20% give or take ball park or maybe it was a set amount - for some reason $20M +/- is rattling around in my head?? I have no idea how it works beyond that, ie how University X divides it among various sports AND how the said sports divvy up their share among their athletes. Not sure I ever read any guidelines or rules around that. NIL. NIL is kids, on their own essentially contracting for their Name, Image, likeness etc. The schools aren’t involved in that, short of hopefully some guard rails and maybe some review/over sight. I think NIL deals now over a small sum like $400-600 have to go thru a clearinghouse?? And alot of it seems to be “collectives” now? It’s all the Wild West. It’s gross, buts it’s the world we live in now. But given the nature of this board let’s try to get things as accurate as possible with the facts THEN run wild with all the crap I expect that will be spewed on these pages.
  2. I don’t know about either of those. Him winning 125…I think the returning champ and several others will have a say in that. I think almost all the AAs return. And them “getting” him…seeing as Cornell got him then likely gladly parted ways with him (and his Dad ) due to academic and maybe legal issues…and he landed back home after a short auction where Dad likely put him up for bidding and Rutgers “won”. How did the other 4x guys do?? I genuinely ask, cuz I’m too lazy to look up who they even are. And I’m thinking they may need to start grabbing more 3x and 2x cuz 4x are nice but 4 out of the 5 in history aren’t gonna help too much when you have to field 10 weights every year and compete in the Big Ten. It still holds, they cant seem to keep enough of the home grown talent home. Rutgers based on state and regional talent is a chronic under performer. AND given their finances in the AD, not sure a non-revenue sport like wrestling rates a big money splash hire unless some wealthy alum steps in to foot the bill. If they wanna shock the world and throw a million at JB, Jersey Mike is gonna have to raise sub prices and fund it.
  3. I can’t figure Rutgers out. NJ has great wrestling and good football and Rutgers can’t seem to get either right. The kids don’t seem to wanna stay home. I don’t know if a new coach changes all that keeps some of the top NJ wrestling talent at home. But I do know one thing, a big splash hire in the mold of DT or Cael ain’t happening. No way they’re shelling out big bucks to the likes of Burroughs for wrestling when their Athletic Dept is hemorrhaging money. https://www.si.com/college/rutgers/football/rutgers-reportedly-lost-over-500-millions-since-they-joined-the-big-ten
  4. Cael hates this event. He’s not gonna go. He gets to decide what’s best for his program, he seems to be doing ok. U23s are in Vegas in mid Oct. That’s likely to be a team loaded with PSU guys. I know they moved NDIs a little later but it won’t matter. Cael hates the event and having massive amounts of his team on World teams late into the year provides cover for not going. So I guess we’re gonna do this again for a second year. Ignore a great event and a bunch of great wrestling to whine and complain about who’s not there. Weird…
  5. Yes.
  6. Given the overall state of the Iowa program, this great unexpected tourney performance aside, not sure why a kid winning at Stanford and with Stanfords performance this year would seek greener pastures?? In 2-3 yrs from now with degree in hand is a totally different equation.
  7. Are there any feel good stories from any other divisions this year? Nick Ackerman shared the Hodge with Cael one year after (2001? I think) winning a D3 title on NO LEGS, having lost them to a bacterial infection as an infant.
  8. Seems MM’s to lose, but Barr is in there, Levi, Vega, Jax, LL, Trumble. With what? 7 undefeated champs, I don’t think anyone else makes the list of finalists. There are criteria listed for the award no? How does this group on undefeated champs breakdown according to the varying stated criteria??
  9. I shouldn’t wade in here but against my better judgement… Not a good look for Caliendo - the attempted choke holds during the match followed by the podium hand shake snub. I’ll wait for all the posters who piled on Davis to come and pile on Caliendo for the next 2 months. I’ll be holding my breath…
  10. Seems with Mendez losing in the finals and MM remaining undefeated, winning the title (x2), doing so with a TF, finishing with only one non-bonus win, the award should be MM’s to lose. But who knows how the voting will go? There’s a lot of PSU fatigue nowadays.
  11. You’re the best!! Thank you!! And wow that was fast too!! Much appreciated!
  12. 125 - LL 133 - Ono/Blaze/Desmond 141 - Ono/Blaze/Desmond/Davis 149 - SVN 157 - Kasak (Duke RS) 165 - MM 174 - Henckel 184 - Welsh 197 - Barr 285 - Mirasola I wouldn’t be surprised if Blaze took a RS on his way to 141 or even 149. Duke RS on his way up to 165/174 has kinda been the plan all along. Where Ono slots in will be interesting, along with what they do with Blaze and Desmond. Davis, if he’s still around, will maybe finally get to take the RS he’s been trying to take for 3 yrs now. Lots of depth, all the incoming kids should RS I’d think.
  13. No idea what they’ll do but he can do both. He can take a RS at some point and still has an Olympic redshirt available.
  14. @Cornell Kevin Thank you for doing this all season long for us!

    OW?

I’ve always thought it usually goes to who had the most dominant tournament…MDs, TFs, Pins…MM hammered his way thru minus the Dec against the UNC kid..close score, not a close match. TFing the guy who’s been #2 at the weight for 2 yrs also is pretty dominant (dare I say outstanding). But you’re right, in the end it’s a meaningless award few remember. And I wouldn’t have a problem if it went to the 133, 141, 149, 157, or 165 winner…those stuck out as the biggest wins due to being Fr, big upset, dominant win, etc.
  16. Shayne Van Ness almost did…
  17. That’s his wife. No relation pre marriage. He got married over the summer I believe.
  18. I thought so. No penalty point though and lucky he got a stoppage, MM might’ve decked him there.
  19. Apparently? I didn’t think you could and don’t think you should…but wtf do I know anymore. The wrestling world is chaos!!
  20. That’s fantastic!! Thank you for doing this!! I checked thru the last 10yrs and it was PA #1 for like 7 of the years and top 2-3 the other 3 years, not surprising. Any chance you could make it so we can sort by state? Overall? Over periods of time? Would be cool to see how the top states have done over the entire time period of your data set.
  21. Rough year for the Big Red, but sounds like it’s an anomaly. Ruiz, Joy and Shapiro come back, I read they were grey shirting their better 197 and 285 and they have the #3 recruiting class coming in, they’ll be back. BUT…and maybe the data doesn’t hold up and it’s just my faulty memory but it sure does seem like every year certain schools and conferences have guys who come in with gaudy records and high seeds and they get bounced from the front side early and often by Big 10 low placers.
  22. Vaginal tears are no joke… That was mean, I’m sorry. It was probably a Labia? Labrum? I don’t know, A&P was a long time ago…
  23. 125 - LL - hopefully better match than the dual, where LL won via DQ from stall calls 133 - Jax - I’m pulling for Davino (I need a shower) 141 - Mendez 149 - Van Ness - dual was like 10-4 or 12-6 so hoping that repeats 157 - Taylor 165 - MM 174 - Levi - hoping for a bit more distance in the score 184 - McEnelly - I’ll be pulling for Rocco but I don’t know/think he can keep winning these OT/2OT matches 197 - Barr 285 - Bastida
  24. Over - Iowa, the smart kids at Stanford, Columbia, Princeton Under - tOSU, the smart kids at Cornell
