i agree, i talked to a guy whose kid is on scholly D1 and i was disgusted.
however, i know some students who make out pretty well as well, but yes.. not every student who is on the team like in football.
i agree. those students have had nil for quite some time... right from the university. they get funded projects and scholarships. many people pay the UNIV. to benefit certain programs of their liking and the money sometimes goes to students who are doing the research etc. or are a top student in their college.
I do get what you are saying it isn't the same, but yeah
125: 223 57 (125) :223
133: 267 61 (134) 267
141: 300 65 (143): 300/465
half of these go down
149: 331
70 (154): 165.5+169=334.5
half of these 157 go down
157: 338 half of 157 go up
165: 299 74(163) 169+299 = 468
174: 280 79 (174) 280
184: 262 where do these guys go? 10 more pounds? down 6 up... probably up...
86(190) 117 + 262 = 379
197: 234 half of these go down half go up
92(203) : 117
97(214) : 57
285: 227 1/4 of these go down 127(276): 170
for the first few years it looks like a problem. maybe things will even out... but i dont see us gaining wrestlers at 92 and 97 in college
i really dont see the benefit. more people for fewer opportunities in the middle if we switch and more opportuinities for fewer people at the top...
also, what do we do when they change again? how often do the international weights change? are they as consistent as ncaa and nfhs?
are they done 'scientifically'? like, supposedly the hs weights are a distribution...
i mean i agree dakes feat was incredible.. but he didn't wrestle all those guys. and just b/c more guys wrestled at taht weight, doesn't mean there are fewer wrestlers at the upper weights..
it means fewer wrestled matches... redshirts are going to wrestle... but are the older young kids still seeing competition or waiting until they are 'ready' to compete
I dont really see how the freestyle weights address this problem, they add to the upper weights , a 210? or 211? which isn't apparently where the wrestlers are...
and take away a weight as someone pointed out.. 149, where there are lots of wrestlers
if i'm a senior in college, and my weight class changes from the year before... do i end up like Kolat or mcilravy did when the weights in freestyle changed... a little aced out and in between...
great dual yesterday
OSU takes two of first three to put themselves in striking distance
fix gets the major to tie and enough points to win the tie breaker
smith isn't done yet it appears.. they knew how many fix had to score
as much as people bad mouth brands for his guys getting hurt...
here we are bad mouthing manning for doing the opposite...
which is it?
maybe the kid needed a break.
its not about us...
In 1854 Horace Greeley, a New York newspaper editor, gave Josiah B. Grinnell a famous piece of advice. "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country," said Greeley. Grinnell took Greeley's advice, moved west, and later founded Grinnell, Iowa.
to some extent im sure that wrestling enhanced their play in football... but there are many people in the NFL who didn't wrestle . probably some who only played football ...
so are you saying that bball is what made another guy great? was it soccer? ballet like lynn swann? no. they can enhance.
but these people are elite b/c of something else... not b/c they learned leverage in wrestling. they could have learned leverage playing football. or rugby or maybe they never did and have another way to win the one on one in the trench.
great post.
many of your points are good.
but i think that elite people are just elite. they are good at whatever they do. they have the drive to excel.
i know lots of kids who are obsessed with video games and good at them who can't do anything with their bodies of an athletic nature... and no they aren't overweight couch potatoes
its like saying playing multiple sports helped someone reach the NFL. no they are in the nfl b/c they are a freak of nature and were driven to be the best. they did all those other sports as well, b/c they realized they could dominate them as well in high school.
I saw derrick henry play in a high school game... didn't know who he was, and wondered why the game was on espn. then i saw this giant. i realized what was going on. henry would have dominated almost any sport he played.
im not holding my breath on burwick... he isn't scoring takedowns either, at least not in that match
i mean nebraska got two transfers at 133 and neither is really high level
there are still boring matches in freestyle
i watched sidakov in his final at yaryguin (spell)
they moved from the center maybe once. I didn't see a single attempt of any kind in the first period. both got a passive
in the second there was one shot that got finished... and then they walked around for another few minutes feigning ties and collars...
both would have been stalled out in a folkstyle match.
