  1. Also big shout out to Trent for getting out there and competing! That’s how you get better at wrestling…by wrestling. He was everywhere he could be the last couple years. Not afraid to take some losses for a larger goal of being a…champion! Still can’t believe it. What a match.
  2. I did not know that wow. So annoying there isn’t 92kg at the Olympics.
  3. Valencia beat Hidlay 5-0 at the Ono vs Spencer Lee exhibition mathces. Congrats Iran on your team world championship.
  4. I've been on the bandwagon for a long time. Fan of his brother as well. Those guys met up with legends in their finals, Nolf (Hayden damn near won), Brooks (might have been juiced). I saw Trent wrestle live up close at the 2023 NYAC tournament. He beat a super savvy Kentchadze who ended up winning worlds that same year down a weight. He also beat Alex Dieringer that day. I knew then was a serious contender at the world level. What a machine this weekend. Wrestled his style, his pace, imposed his will on everyone he wrestled. From bride's maid to the f'ing bride! Congrats to the Hidlay family! Forever a world CHAMP!
  5. Man it seems as though France and Belgium are the new Russian training grounds.
  6. He doesn't have a mental block but he does have gas tank issues. After that first exchange he looked to already be stumbling a bit. Any time I see him bouncing in the middle I think oh crap, he's starting to feel it. He's never been a guy to go and get a TD at the end of a match and that is a key to winning a world title. He doesn't do that because he's tired. I love the guy, was pulling hard for him, but he's either overtraining a bit or he just has bad lungs.
  7. Carr in the hole on D.
  8. Against the Armenian he shoots a single to the guy’s right leg and then kinda pull himself into a head outside hi c finish and against Rahmani he shoots an ankle pick to his right leg. He also missed a single attempt to Rahmani’s right leg where Rahmani ended up scoring on that sweet duck sequence he hit. I think max shoots his traditional single and ankle picks to the guy’s right leg and his knee pull to their left.
  9. Retherford failed to medal? He was a world champ in 2023 and he also placed 2nd in 2022. Stieber also won a world title in 2016. Maybe Im confused?
  10. The Kid,, That is perhaps true. But I’m not so sure. The Japanese U20 men’s team was quite low.
  11. Well the best wrestling country implies all of its people to me. Is Japan the best wrestling country in the world because they won senior worlds one year? We have an easy way to quantify it from U16 on up since there’s a world championship held at those levels.
  12. I figure an average from U17, U20, U23 and seniors is the best measure.
  13. That Japanese dude was bullying guys earlier in the tournament. Not with Luke, in fact Luke not only didn’t give ground he wore him out! His finishes are concise and quick. He wrestled very smart in that world final. Fought just enough defensively and knew when to bail. He’s deceptively good. Making NJ very proud!
  14. I respect GR but I tend to agree. I’ve always thought Greco would make a lot more sense if you were ONLY able to touch the legs in freestyle but in freestyle you can do BOTH. It’s a way more viable and practically applicable martial art/sport.
  15. I was there that night for that match. That world championships was great. Iranians well represented in the stands, Cormier shoving dudes, Cael Sajidov, Cuban studs. MSG. Loved it.
  16. Would be interesting to know what really happened to Saitiev. Even on his Wikipedia page the official word is he was sick and in and out of the hospital but his wife and witnesses claimed he fell out of a window? Such a damn shame either way. My favorite wrestler ever.
  17. We have never come close to this level of success at the lower levels since I’ve been following. We’d have a junior world champ here and there. 5 in one freaking year?!
  18. Are we currently the best wrestling country in the world? I guess it’s yet to be determined until after U23s and seniors but we just might be.
  19. And can we stop with the 6 weight nonsense? 10 weights please. The change from worlds to Olympics adds some intrigue at the qualification level but it also leaves so many deserving athletes watching from home.
  20. And traditionally a weight where we struggle to medal. That is some scary depth wow. Speaking of Nick Lee is he retired?
  21. Kazakhstan is having a very nice tournament. Both Mirasolas lost to one and the kid at 61 looks phenomenal. Well ahead of Iran and Japan and not far off USA after day 2.
  22. We’ve been getting killed with that lace where their head is right under your crotch. Knox and Lockett in particular.
  23. There may be a gap right now but Jayden seems physically immature compared to those guys. The old eye test tells me the sky is the limit for this kid.
  24. I haven’t seen all of the matches but my god Sammy Sanchez and Jayden James are damn good. I hadn’t seen Sanchez much but that kid is quick and very impressive. James just seems so fluid and smooth. Love watching him.
