  1. He apparently took off the entire 8th grade to play video games and train if you've seen the FLO video
  2. Cael no longer wants to share secret sauce at Penn State with others. Too many other teams have already copied and adopted the joys of dodge ball, play wrestling in practice, cutting smaller amounts of weight, Win Dixies, and generally enjoying the sport as opposed to beating themselves to death "Iowa style".
  3. "Bartlett, 5th place. Hard to believe he only has one loss, but his lack of offensive production will cost him against guys like Woods and Sasso." If Bartlett loses to Sasso, one of the two has to move up or down a weight. Obviously, Sasso is ducking Bartlett.
  4. Hodge Watch: Seth Nevills is undefeated at 285 with a 100 percent bonus rate. Just pinned MD's heavyweight. He also weighs 280 so he has room to grow.
  5. Someone needs to tell Byers what an "Assassin" pinning combination is. He's encountered this before and can't describe or name it.
  6. 19-3 at the break. Sounds like Ball is in for Brooks at 184. And MD's 197 lb starter (Smith) didn't weigh in
  7. Haines is a beast. He's a true freshman who can throw many middling guys around and impose his will. He's always looking for points and turns. Pins the Maryland guy in the first period with a takedown to a cradle
  8. Bartlett with a "workmanlike" unflashy 5-2 win. Van Ness with a flashy tech fall 19-4 over a ranked guy
  9. We went from extremely low scoring to extremely high scoring matches. Was like a rocket lifting off to the moon and escaping gravity
  10. MD beats Steen 1-0. Yes, that was the final score RBY gets 14 takedowns to a tech fall win. Made it look way too easy.
  11. Maryland has one super Fan/atic, Robin Ficker (thankfully only one) and Penn State has none.
  12. Achilles (Penn State) vs. the Tortoise (Maryland) The Tortoise challenged Achilles to a race (match), claiming that he would win as long as Achilles gave him a small head start. Achilles laughed at this, for of course he was a mighty warrior and swift of foot, whereas the Tortoise was heavy and slow. “How big a head start do you need?” he asked the Tortoise with a smile. “Ten meters (points),” the latter replied. Achilles laughed louder than ever. “You will surely lose, my friend, in that case,” he told the Tortoise, “but let us race, if you wish it.” “On the contrary,” said the Tortoise, “I will win, and I can prove it to you by a simple argument.” “Go on then,” Achilles replied, with less confidence than he felt before. He knew he was the superior athlete, but he also knew the Tortoise had the sharper wits, and he had lost many a bewildering argument with him before this. “Suppose,” began the Tortoise, “that you give me a 10-meter (point) head start. Would you say that you could cover that 10 meters (points) between us very quickly?” “Very quickly,” Achilles affirmed. “And in that time, how far should I have gone, do you think?” “Perhaps a meter (point)—no more,” said Achilles after a moment’s thought. “Very well,” replied the Tortoise, “so now there is a meter (point) between us. And you would catch up that distance very quickly?” “Very quickly indeed!” “And yet, in that time I shall have gone a little way farther, so that now you must catch that distance up, yes?” “Ye-es,” said Achilles slowly. “And while you are doing so, I shall have gone a little way farther, so that you must then catch up the new distance,” the Tortoise continued smoothly. Achilles said nothing. “And so you see, in each moment you must be catching up the distance between us, and yet I—at the same time—will be adding a new distance, however small, for you to catch up again.” “Indeed, it must be so,” said Achilles wearily. “And so you can never catch up,” the Tortoise concluded sympathetically. “You are right, as always,” said Achilles sadly—and conceded the race (match)
  13. Setting this Super Bowl thread up a little early because the suddenly Fearsome Turtles are (very slowly!) arriving to University Park to battle a hungry Lion. They are also on a mean (nearly unprecedented) one match Big Ten win streak. And they are led by an 8th Year (yes, you read that right) Senior Citizen at 285. It's Turtles all the way down: How To Watch What: #1 Penn State vs #28 Maryland* Where: Rec Hall, University Park, PA When: Sunday, February 12, 1:00 PM EST Audio: Free (via GoPSUSports) Video: BTN+ Lineup #1 Penn State WT #28 Maryland Gary Steen (Fr., Hermitage, PA) 125 #15 - Braxton Brown (Fr., Allen, TX) #1 - Roman Bravo-Young (Sr., Tucson, AZ) 133 Conner Quinn (So., Annandale, NJ) #6 - Beau Bartlett (Jr., Tempe, AZ) 141 Kal Miller (Fr., Kansas City, MO) #13 - Shayne Van Ness (Fr., Somerville, NJ) 149 #18 - Ethan Miller (Fr., Kansas City, MO) #8 - Levi Haines (Fr., Arendtsville, PA) 157 Michael North (Jr., Wadsworth, OH) #9 - Alex Facundo (Fr., Essexville, MI) 165 John Martin Best (Fr., Parkersburg, WV) #1 - Carter Starocci (Jr., Erie, PA) 174 Dominic Solis (So., Laurel, MD) #1 - Aaron Brooks (Sr., Hagerstown, MD) 184 Chase Mielnik (So., Downingtown, PA) #3 - Max Dean (Sr., Lowell, MI) 197 #13 - Jaxon Smith (Fr., Cartersville, GA) #2 - Greg Kerkvliet (So., Grove Heights, MN) 285 #25 - Jaron Smith (Sr., Columbia, MD)
  14. Is (and if so, when is) there a final coaches' poll that supersedes this one?
  15. If teams start dropping the Mighty Turtles from their schedules next season, we will know why: Treatment of Chelonaphobia For many individual who are suffering from turtles (branch of herpetophobia & zoophobia) – Chelonaphobia. Don’t always feel the need of treatment because they can just avoid the object of their fear. This gives people suffering from Chelonaphobia a feeling of control on the problem. But sometimes avoiding turtles (branch of herpetophobia & zoophobia) might not be possible or enough. It is important for someone to always seek professional help when possible. This way you don’t lose time and do a better job and understanding what is happening. With understanding you can next move on to overcoming your fear of turtles (branch of herpetophobia & zoophobia).
  16. Eighth year senior citizen. FIFY
  17. I wasn't rooting for Cassiopi, but damn that sure looked like nearfall (maybe even four points) to me when he trapped Parris' arm and had him counting the lights. Hmm. How would have the Big Ten seedings played out if Cassiopi had won?
  18. Bigger than the Super Bowl. JARON SMITH'S WIN ON SENIOR NIGHT GIVES TERPS 19-18 VICTORY OVER PURDUE STORY LINKS COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland won its first Big Ten dual match since Jan. 10, 2016 with a dramatic 19-18 win over Purdue on Friday night at the XFINITY Pavilion. Eighth-year senior Jaron Smith clinched the win for the Terps (9-7, 1-6) with a 3-2 decision at heavyweight, sending the crowd and team into a frenzy. Maryland rallied by winning four of the final five matches. After trailing 9-0 and 15-4, the Terps made the comeback. John Martin Best won in overtime, 6-5 at 165. Then Dominic Solis captured a 5-4 decision. In his return to action after an injury, No. 17 Jaxon Smith pinned Hayden Filipovichin 2:00 to bring the Terps within 18-16, setting the stage for Jaron Smith's 3-2 victory. With nine wins, the Terps have their most wins in a season since the 2013-14 season when Maryland went 9-8. Dating to that Big Ten win in 2016, a 26-10 victory over Michigan State, Maryland had lost 63 consecutive Big Ten duals. From Coach Clemsen "The guys were down (at intermission) and I liked that because it's important to them, but I told them that dual meets are all aboiut momentum and energy. We went on runs last and we could do that again this year. We just needed one to get it started and John got it started. Dom followed it up, (Makosy) fought hard, Jaxon with the big pin---it was good. I believed in our team that we could win tonight and am very thankful that we did. 19. Yet another backup at 174. This is the JV team.
  20. If Mason Parris doesn't wrestle, we will know for sure that Michigan is now the Water Fowls
  21. It seems like Lee is teaching the team to use those two on one tilts.
  22. A third Michigan Duck? Where's Amine?
