What about it? Koll's reference was clearly to what has happened this off-season with the portal and the teams most active in paying out NIL money - not in recruiting.
The problem is that the kids getting the scholarships are the mid-tier kids whereas the top elite kids are getting NIL to cover expenses. It's just another way of getting extra scholarships.
IMO guys from the former school who followed the coach that recruited them is a different story than paying out guys in NIL deals to transfer. I wouldn't blame someone for following the coach that recruited them ... buying a team with NIL is different.
Not sure, but according to the article they have things in place to help keep kids around. I imagine it’s definitely harder to transfer into Stanford than other places.
“ I don’t need to dip into the portal because we won’t lose guys,” Koll said. “I’m building a team, not buying a team like the Penn State, Iowa, and Michigan models.”
My reference is not to grasping it with the hand but hooking it with the leg and sitting on it. This will eliminate one aspect of stalling. Grasping the ankle now goes beyond the hand grabbing the ankle. Watch much college wrestling this past season?
From a Feb 2014 ESPN article about grayshirting:
“Nobody really remembers when it first began. Some coaches say it's been around forever, while others say it started to catch on only over the past 10 years. ”
Giving credit to the term “gray shirt” to Mike Grey and changing the spelling would have been a great story.
Cmon now …. Read the article at least. January 08 is as close as you get to 07. If you read the article it’s partly based on the previous season and it’s written under the premise that it’s been going on for awhile.
Debatable.
SB nations article from January of 2008 referring to it as “gray shirt” in the context of what was happening in football at the time.

I would agree that Mike Grey is allowed to coin the term for Cornell usage On a side note, I think he earned it for what he did this past season... along with coach of the year IMO.
Not a bad lineup.... LR putting together a good roster for a newer program. IMO getting Dutton and Bailey were huge for their program. They are becoming a model for starting a program and building from scratch. I hope to see them get an AA soon... the first NC to come from that program will be royalty.
Agree... and I have no poblem with it. If they can get a "redshirt" the same as other NCAA teams by using a "gray shirt" system, then they are on equal ground. If the other Ivies don't like it, they should start their own "gray shirt" program. I'm always mystified by those who think it's cheating when all it's doing is putting them on the same level as every non-Ivie team in the country. They are doing nothing wrong... more power to them for being innovative.
Will the coaches rankings now be more accurate with the minimum matches being two? If I recall, some guys were left out of rankings because of matches wrestled, not because they did not deserve to be there.
