I believe that I Penn is taking the full team of starters and maybe a few more to the Southern Scuffle. Not clear to me what teams are going to be there and at what strength (starters or just redshirts). Anybody have some intel on what teams are planning to compete in this event? I hope the Quakes are not scaring away the competition!

With CJ Composto expected back in action, Penn stock up in the first six weights with all ranked guys! A lot of pleasant suprises from a pre-season with a lot of line-up questions. I believe Penn is taking the full team to the Souther Scuffle, which I assume should be a key test with opportunities for wins with ranking and potential seeding mojo for eventual NCAA qualifiers.

I would not choose the word "overrated," but I have some initial skepticism that Welsh has or will develop the offense to make top 4 at NCAA's. I know he was a finalist in '24 against Starocci. He has some solid defense and tough to ride, but close matches at NCAA's looking for the winning TD from straight on shots can be risky. So he is on my watch at a weight that looks pretty NCAA deep to me. I am not rooting against him but surprised at his limited attacks from neutral.

PSU at Drexel tonight - then at Lehigh. An Eastern PA swing which is nice! Many people may be thinking or wondering if PSU is ducking the mighty Penn Quakers (who are rocketing up in the polls) - the Quakers are only a few blocks away from Drexel. I would suggest this is not quite fair because (I think) Penn is in the finals period and I do not think they can schedule matches during this period. Just unlucky. I would concede that PSU would be favored notwithstanding the momenetum of the Penn early season success.

I think the Keystone Classic is usually a little tougher/deeper and notably Cael Sanderson himself was a Keystone Champ back in the day! To some extent, if PSU shows up with A/B wrestlers, its a prestigious tourney! That room is crazy deep with ass-kickers. Drexel tomorrow @ Drexel - hard to see the Dragons winning a lot of those matches.

Some good points on this thread. Rutgers just won the Keystone Classic - so prolly on their way up again! They looked pretty solid.

Astute analysis - but there are countervailing benefits from wrestling in the Ivy L that may pay off in the long run!

The Lopes match was a good one. Mougalian looked very good and dominated the last two periods after giving up a TD at the end of the 1st. Rode him the entire 2nd period and was very close to finishing several tds in the 3rd. Lopes is a heck of scrambler. Do not think most watching that match would pick Lopes to win the rematch - but I may not be the most objective analyst. Penn has a new contender at 165 who - like Cael Sanderson - won the Keystone Classic. Sean Seefeldt, listed as a Junior from Strongville, Ohio. Beat Ryan Burton from VA Tech and showed a lot of poise. Seefeldt looks like an NCAA qualifier at the least.

It is going to be fun this year and next. This new guy Vega seems like a breakout wrestling rock star - we will see if it holds up through NCAAs. I am taking the over on him on NCAA top 5.

I take your point. Jax, Vega, Robideau, and Locket could be contenders right away. I think Facundo could sniff third, just needs to find a little better finishes and penetration. Seems like he is in a good room for it.

I may overweight wrestlers with strong ride and top game. Just a feeling that it seems more likely that those wrestlers can get better from neutral than wrestlers that are strong in neutral becoming great on top.

More than newcomers Mirasola, Duke, and Blaze, I think the wildcard is Nagao. Flo is starting him at #11. I will take the over on top 8 and expect that he will be an AA. Just a hunch though and I have not seen him in action recently or at 141. Any intel out there?

Yes made 133 - Lopes got a td at end of 1st, Mougalian rode him for the entire 2nd and had one swipe on a tilt. Mougalian escape in 3rd and very close to a few tds in 3rd. Do not know how good Lopes is but seems pretty good on his feet and not easy to finish on.
