  1. Disclaimer: All numbers are subject to change as I find errors that I am sure are there. I have spent a fair amount of time on error detection, but the odds I got the all are plus or minus zero. From 1928 thru 2022 there have been 3,274 wrestlers who have earned All-American status. In total they have earned 5,509 honors. AA Trivia: In 92 NCAA tournaments there have only been two wrestlers named Brad Smith to All-American.... And they were in the same bracket. In 1976 Iowa's Brad Smith won the 142 lb. title while Toledo's Brad Smith took fourth at the weight. It is is shame they weren't both in the final. Would have been tough on the announcers, but fun for me. The biggest spread between All-Americans earned by a single wrestler is eight years. In 1950 Frank Altman took third at 121 for Northern Iowa (Iowa State Teachers College). After serving in the Air Force for four years he returned to college at Iowa State and took 4th at 115 in 1958. Pretty remarkable. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/globegazette/name/frank-altman-obituary?pid=199769884 (More trivia to come, but have to run)
  2. so is math, so be careful here.
  3. zero. he would have just kept turning them as many times as it took.
  4. For me it is Jesse Mendez.
  5. Spencer Lee has average 5.067 points per NCAA match (advancement, placement, and bonus) while Kyle Dake averaged 4.65.
  6. Nope. That is a whiff, the other one was not. You have to take a swing at something to whiff.
  7. Curses @Tigerfan. You got in my head. I am almost finished compiling all AA's by year (1928 - 2022), weight, school, name, and seed. What I do not have is Coach by school and year. If you or anyone else is so inclined to put together a such a list, I would be much obliged.
  8. Yeah, it was a pretty narrow audience I was aiming for. But is it any more of a whiff than a cartoon of something that is not a whiff with the word whifffff in it?
  9. Did she coach at Glenbard North?
  10. Sorry, I meant Spencer Lee a d Thomas Gillman will NEVER join NLWC.
  11. "Chop wood, carry water." Nick Lee
  12. I have a new favorite quote
  13. He and Dake will NEVER join NLWC
  14. Thank you for identifying yourself as another source for not restaurant recommendations.
  15. Agree 100% Now if we could only get WIN Magazine to rank beyond top 20 we would be in business.
  16. Yeah, but its puppy love. That said, it feels like Wrestlestat has been the most accurate so far. I haven't done the math yet (stay tuned), but it seems like they have had the least volatility to their rankings. They have had the fewest of their pre-season #1s take an L.
  17. A thousand times, Yes. Assuming they both win this year (a safe assumption the last two years) then we are talking about a chance to be among the all-time greats with four titles. And for Starocci five titles is still in the conversation, though he has cast some doubt on that himself. Like RBY cast doubt he would come back for a third title shot this year. But even if they don't win this year we are still only talking about taking their fifth year.
  18. et tu?
  19. Minnesota is off to a rough start. Even after accounting for the loss of Gable Steveson, they are lagging well behind pre-season expectations. They came into the season ranked 7th by Intermat (using expected points, not max points), 9th by Flo, and 12th by Wrestlestat. They are now ranked 19th by all three services. Meanwhile, the corn is sweet in the land of Lincoln, with 2 of three services now projecting a podium finish. Nebraska scored 48 points at the last NCAA tournament and were projected to score between 33 (Wrestlestat) and 45 (Intermat) advancement and placement points this season. Their new projections are all around 23 points.
  20. I know I'm wasting my breath here, but you have a 6 lose freshman returning against either Aaron Brooks or Carter Starocci as a part of a good chance to win four? When I am looking for a good place to eat in Lincoln, I will not be asking you.
  21. Good question. I didn't think to check, but I guess guys don't get eighth years as often as I thought they did.
  22. Liam Cronin at 125. Had a big weekend beating Patrick McKee and Michael DeAugustino.
  23. You are not wrong. Among three timers in the freshman ineligible eras (100%ers), only Wayne Martin did the deed at three different weights. It was both very impressive and a bit of a technicality. In 1934 he won at 135, the third of eight weights. In 1935 he won at 145, the fourth of eight weights. In 1936 he won at 134, the second of seven weights. 1936 was an Olympic year and they would sometimes harmonize the weights and tournament structure with the Olympic weights and structure back then. A lot of three timers from that era won at two weights. No three timer in the freshman eligible eras have won at more than two weights.
