Swimming, Glorious Swimming
Wrestleknownothing replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
That is awesome -
Begins tomorrow. And we do not bury the lead in swimming. There are two finals tomorrow. Men's 400m freestyle (no, not that freestyle) and women's 400m freestyle. The women's 400m free will almost certainly have the world record holder plus two former world record holders. This will be a barn burner. Katie Ledecky, the greatest female swimmer of all-time, and former world record holder is NOT the favorite. That title goes the Ariarne Titmus of Australia, the current world record holder. Titmus broke Ledecky's record in 2022. But Ledecky might not even be second favorite. In 2023 Canada's Summer (seems a good name for a swimmer) McIntosh broke Titmus' record only to have Titmus reclaim the record at last year's World Championship (where Ledecky finished second and McIntosh fourth). With the three fastest women ever in the same field it will not disappoint.

And yet, his departure from office is still miles more dignified and graceful than the last guy. -
That group of 102 wrestlers produced a total of 39 AA finishes with 6 titles. The Dream Team was the best with 20 AA's and 3 titles (Jeff Prescott x2, Matt Ruppel). Other AAs produced a single title (Mark Reiland) among their 4 AA finishes. Honorable Mention was honorable producing 2 titles (Matt Demaray) and 14 total AA finishes. The Nerds got a single 3rd place finish from Tom Miller. In total only 20 wrestlers on the list every AA'd 8 of 11 Dream Team 1 of 11 Academic Team 3 of 20 Other AA 8 of 60 Honorable Mention

I imagine it is a technology and expense issue. Either you need to provide internet to the most remote of regions at some cost or you need to constantly send someone to download images stored on a camera. Perhaps there is a philosophical element too. Not wanting to spoil nature with technology.

Hmmm, what is missing?

I would have a hard time trusting that polling. It was done at a time that required people to imagine a world that did not yet exist. Now that it exists (and dependent on the Democrat VP pick), it would not surprise me to see the results change significantly in either direction. -
Now we know where all the Captain has gone.

Both parties have this, though the Republicans do not call them Super Delegates. Democrats have about 15% super delegates while Republicans have three automatically seated delegates from every state/territory. Democrat Super Delegates are currently not allowed to vote in the first round. Republican auto delegates must vote in line with elected delegates in the first round. And the degree to which they have them is often a result/reaction to losing an election. It used to be that there were only super delegates (think Lincoln's nomination) and there were many rounds of ballots and a lot of horse trading before a candidate was decided. Then the pendulum swung toward a grassroots process like we have now. The pendulum moves around a bit from year to year, but lately always at the grassroots end of the spectrum. -

Cliff Notes: DJT is about to add $2.5 billion cash to its balance sheet. But someone will be selling a shit-ton of stock as a result. So, caveat emptor. -

I had a very similar conversation. Maybe we were talking to each other and did not realize it. We also talked about how hard it will be to fill the VP slot on the Democratic ticket. No one will want that VP slot. They would just rather wait four years and run then. -

I think this is a fundamental misunderstanding about how our elections work and the history of selecting candidates. -
Trump and the Race for Cash
Wrestleknownothing replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
I would not read too much into this, but since Biden exited the presidential race DJT is down 7%. DJT is, after all, a wildly volatile stock. But it is also not really a stock in the traditional sense. It has a market value of ~$6.5 billion even though it may be lucky to sell $1 million in ads this quarter while losing a lot of money in the process. It is really just a meme stock and a way to participate in Donald Trump's popularity. What do meme companies do when their stock is wildly over-valued? They sell more stock, of course. Bed, Bath and Beyond, Gamestop, Hertz, and others have all shown the way. And they always do this via at-the-market offerings instead of via secondary offerings. This makes sense because secondary offerings are marketed to institutional investors who have no interest in playing memes. But at-the-market offerings are targeted at retail investors who love the memes. But DJT has a basic problem. It has been public for less than a year, and it cannot do an ATM offering until it has been public for a year. But there is a solution. There is a hedge fund who specializes in providing a bridge between a secondary and an ATM offering. And now they count DJT as a client. They inked a deal on Monday where DJT will sell $2.5 billion of stock to the hedge fund over time via a series of secondary offerings, and the hedge fund will immediately dump the shares in the market as they get them and give DJT a price that is almost guaranteed to be less than what they sold it for AND minus a 2.75% fee (and they get 200,000 free shares worth about $6.5 million for an extra kicker). -
