Wrestling USA Magazine, which is about the only rankings I know of from back then.

Barry and Royce weren't even Iowa HS 4xers,

Royce Alger was a 3X HS champ and won a JR National Title.  He was one of the best recruits in the country.  I have nothing against Iowa and their program but hot damn their fans these days are living with fever pitch delusions

You should update your stats. Smith has coached 34 national champs, thought the OSU website only has 33.

Meanwhile, Sanderson has 34 at PSU and 2 at ISU, so with 36 he has the most of any active coach.

@Jimmy Cinnabonalso fails at understanding basic math.  He used Gables 15 championships out of 21 seasons.  Gable comes in at 71.428571428%.  Currently Cael has won 10 championships out of his 14 seasons.  Caels comes in at 71.428571428%

The problem with that is Ben is not operating with full, complete knowledge of a situation. Not saying that I am/was, but people say things on the PSU board that occasionally fill in the voids.

As an example, Askren would publicly wonder why SVN had no “good” wins going into the post season. His losses to that point were Murin (3x), Johnson and Sasso. He’d regularly say, “I’m surprised he hasn’t developed more.” What Ben didn’t know was that SVN’s redshirt year didn’t have much wrestling. Kind of hard to develop when you aren’t in the room.

Then, SVN took 3rd, beating Johnson, Henson and Parco. Played catchup all year and put it together (coaching helps here) at NCAAs.

For PSU wrestling during the Cael era I put SVN's tournament run second only behind Quentin Wrights 2011 tournament campaign

I could also be mistaken on interpretation and he could be talking about 97KG. But it seemed like the context was wrestling 197 or 285 - aka being asked if he rolled with Cassioppi/Warner. And it seemed like he was saying he didn't feel like he would be ready next year at 285, but in the future he would be.

    He's wrestling 97kg next weekend

I don't think Facundo is too worried.  He has Worlds and Olympic aspirations and he knows that State College is his best chance for that.

This.  Knowing that you're a Facundo fan I was always under the impression he's more focused on Free than Folk.  Am I wrong?

Nothing sinister at all. Just ihave no doubt these kids are getting paid.  And they should!  There's a growing wave of painting these decisions as purely altruistic and in the nature of the pursuit of greatness, and I have no doubt that Penn State's greatness is helping to draw kids to transfer....but they are also getting paid thru NIL, etc.

Stop bringing common sense to these here parts.  News Flash! This is a sports forum.

Okay, your opinion is noted. People closer to the situation than you have given credence to the possibility. Which doesn't mean it's happening, but it has been discussed. He would RS for football and wrestle as a true freshman in that scenario.

He has to hit the weight room to maintain a weight minimum of 230ish if he hopes to get to the NFL.  He's not putting a lucrative opportunity for generational wealth on the line to throw on a singlet for the Hawkeyes at 197

I think we're more likely to see Kueter at 197 lbs for Iowa next season than AJ

Kueter is not wrestling 197 next year for the Hawkeyes.  He's a legit NFL prospect. There's a better chance we see AJ wrestle again than Kueter

Ok, then what would you use when discussing who would win?  It may not be a great metric, but it's more solid than pure speculation since they've never wrestled.

I predict using strengths and weaknesses both opponents have and how they compare to each other's style.   Then which wrestler has the upper hand in exposing his opponents weakness.  I have never used a common opponent as a barometer.  I personally believe it's unreliable

Now you are making me come off as a big AJ (which I am not). Are we talking about the same guy? MrFastTwitch? He was a big 197 and actually has a very long wingspan...

Yes.  Same guy.  And no he's not a big 197 pounder and where did this imaginary long wingspan come from?  or are you just trolling me!  AJ is not that big of a person.  Anyone who has been around him can verify this
