Been out of town and working on a website so I haven't been as active. But here is quick, easier one.

We all know that Wyatt Sheets was an AA from the 33rd seed. What wrestler finished in the blood round from that seed and came so close to beating Sheets for the distinction?

    Joseph Smith?

When I was teenager growing up in KC, Missouri, I knew exactly where the state line was.  Drinking age in Mo. was 21 and 18 in Kansas for 3.2 % beer.  Night clubs full of chicks from both Missouri and Kansas.  I had a 1970 650 Bonneville Triumph and the girls loved to climb on.  We wrestled some of the Shawnee Mission schools back then and I would run into some of those guys at parties.

Sounds like some great memories.  Reminds me of the stories my dad used to tell me.  They'd cross the state line into Jersey (drinking age was 18 at the time) and he thought he was the man chasing the ladies with his 68 Camaro ss except when his older brother would show up with his GTO

The KC location being in "Misssery" shocks most as they assume KC is Kansas.  I live close to the stateline and spit eastward.  Lets call it spite for having better wrestling programs.  West of Stateline is nice Overland Park and East Stateline is a higher crime KC until you hit Lees Summit.  I lived in KC surrounding area for years and was an adult before learning several parts of KC actually nice and safe in both states.  Something about having my friends beaten up at 14 near the haunted houses shaded my view for the next 10 years.  My first week of downtown work, I was 'lit up' for asking what part of KC I could move my pregnant wife to, if there was such a safe place.  Woof did I learn quickly to swipe my thoughts left before speaking.  I had ~100 responses from being chewed out to being given a map with good/bad neighborhoods clearly marked.

Growing up in PA we were always taught KC was in Missouri.  Could've been a PA football obsession thing making sure we knew were the Chiefs were located.  I can vividly remember people getting teased for not knowing this.  But then one day I'm driving east from Durango with some buddies and we decided for the first time ever to take the dreaded middle route (rt 80 might be longer but not considered as stressful as rt 70) and low & behold we drive into Kansas City Kansas.  The joke of where Kansas City is took on a whole new meaning

    Who did I miss?

Interesting topic.  The issue for the wrestlers you listed is they have opponents in their weight class who are equally if not better defensively with more offense.  For example, 157 - Levi Haines is better defensively than Lewan, 174 - both Mekhi and Starocci are better defensively at this point in their careers, and at 149 Bartlett might be the best defensive wrestler at the weight but it's not so impenetrable that wrestlers like Woods or Mendez can't break through.  But to add to your list Cole Matthews, Cam Amine, Dean Peterson, Daton Fix, & Rocky Elam

For food, just eat at all the BBQ joints. Arthur Bryant's, Gates, Joe's, Q39, Jack Stack....man, now I want BBQ.

I've heard Wolfepack and Slaps are were the true locals go.  True?  Does it stack up with the more famous spots?  Living in Philly I've learned the best places are never on the tourist lists for cheesesteaks

100% purely injury.  Defaulting twice makes me believe the injury is pretty bad, I don't know if there's any history of a guy defaulting twice at conferences and still winning or even coming close.  Nolf wrestled a couple of matches at Big 10s, then Mef FFT'd.

Meh, I can still be a hater, lol. It's similar to how I felt about Nickal, who I hated and loved 🤣🤣🤣.

Lol!!! There are 3 Sanderson wrestlers who i believe fit the mold of a Gable Hawkeye (two solely on personality, take a guess) Retherford, Nickal, & Starocci

I do not believe Starocci is going to win, but I hope I'm wrong, it would be a cool story to be present for, and also, his antics are the kind of thing I'm there for, plus he's notably upped his dominance, which I always appreciate.

Vak, this is why you're the man.  Opposing wrestler from your teams biggest rival but you will still cheer for him.  I'm the same way.  Love the Nits but I'll be rooting for Glazier and Kennedy.  Pretty much any wrestler.  These kids don't deserve our hate.

Five?  You gave FOUR.  He did not major true freshman Welsh.  It was razor thin.  How do you call a 4-2 win a major?  Crazy.

Wrestled 5 wrestlers in the top 10 this season.  4 of them by bonus.  80% bonus rate against top 10. When did I claim he majored R. Welsh?

    * Perhaps you noticed the part about "being better lately?"

But now that you mention: that dec over true freshman Welsh isn't  bonus points either.  Nor is Kennedy a top 10 seed.  The Lewis match didn't count.

Do you think he will bonus Lewis next week?  Because what I read in the post that I responded to was that he was going to bonus guys like Bo Bassett did at PA states.  Bassett went pin, pin, tech, tech.  You really think Carter is  going to do that?

I responded to your Satllrocci moniker and you asked when has he been known to bonus top 10 guys.  That's 5 guys this year all ranked in the top 10 ( Kennedy included despite seed). That's an 80% bonus conversion rate.  Not too shabby.  I had no idea Mekhi went into the All astar Classic to lose and allow the bonus because it wasn't officially on the record.  You got me there.  And I never said he's bonusing his way through Nationals

He's been better lately, but since when has Stall Rocky been a bonus point machine (against top 10 type opponents)?  And now with suspect conditioning and a bum knee, he is supposed to clobber everyone?  I can see him winning the tournament, but unlikely bonusing his way though.

This year results against NCAA opponents based on their Seeds:

    MD over #1 Lewis

    Dec over #6 R. Welsh

    TF over #10 Incontrera

    MD over #12 Kennedy

***TF over Wittlake who I believe was ranked #7 at the time

Pretty impressive results from the notorious staller

I'd say ramirez. But the more I think about it. He's askren trained l, he'll be finalist

It's amazing what happens when you apply just a little bit of logic.  Here's some more logic. Why are you so sure Ramirez gets to the semis?  He's never made it past the round of 12.  You sure he beats Caliendo?

Thought you were a unrespected comedian.  🤔

@ILLINIWrestlingBlog is one fascinating human being.  Ben was born on February 26th 1958 to Mr & Mrs Ghazi.  A young Ben Ghazi found pleasure as a young child in the sport of wrestling but also had a twinkle in his eye for writing and the arts.  Ben left his home at the age of 18 when he met a talent agent.  He officially changed his name and now goes by his stage name Greg German.  You've might have seen his work playing Eric Rico Morrow in the TV series Ally McBeal.  Greg also performs stand up comedy in his spare time and gets a guest spot at the Mothership anytime he wants via making a phone call to one of his best buds, Joe Rogan.

    Likely finalists:

    Brooks, Kerk, Starocci and Levi.

    Very good shot:

Mesenbrink (no KOT, Carr or Hamiti)

    Nobody would be surprised:

    Bartlett, Davis

    I mean, it's possible:

    Bernie

I'd probably still take the under but damn if they don't have a good shot at 7 and an outside shot at 8.

I think Mesenbrink coasts to the finals.  His draw is a total gift
