  1. I didn't say it's guaranteed to make guys attack more frequently. But making offensive attacks worth more than defensive attacks is absolutely not going to discourage offense.
  2. So your assertion is that offensive scores being worth more in comparison to defensive scores will encourage less offense. I guess that's a take.
  3. In Freestyle a simple TD is worth double what a reversal is. In Folkstyle it's worth 1.5Xs. It's weird that you took the time to comment on folkstyle rules and how they compare to freestyle without noting that.
  4. I completely agree that this will benefit the guy who scores on offense.
  5. Very weird that the original post is a freestyle fan who doesn't like the reversal being worth less than the TD.
  6. I'm fine with the All-Star match not counting. It's an exhibition. But if you are wrestling in an actual regular season event, then it should count as a match regardless of who the opponent is. If the opponent is allowed into the college tournament, then it should count on your official record.
  7. It's also an issue of expectations. When most teams have an occasional 14th, nobody cares. When OSU has one (or two), it's noteworthy. The same would be true if Iowa got a 14th.
  8. Colleges are partnering with online sports betting and casinos. They are basically selling their students. But then they are banning students who gamble. I am fine with strong punishments to keep college students away from gambling, but the hypocrisy bothers me.
  9. I showed up for a meeting at my office in a singlet once as a joke. When I got there I found out the meeting had been moved to a nearby cafe. I didn't have time to change and had to attend in my singlet.
  10. Yep. I've gone to a handful of duals while visiting my in-laws, and it's always fun. Even my family members with no connection to wrestling enjoy it. It's a bit of an older crowd, but very full by NCAA wrestling standards, and lots of energy. I would guess their on campus visits go very well for recruits.
  11. Sounds like recruits don't share your perspective.
  12. It also takes Northern Colorado, Air Force, Wyoming, and Utah Valley out of the Big 12 and makes it much harder for those schools to get guys to Nationals. I think that makes it a net negative. It would be better just to find a home for the schools that need one without pulling teams out of places that are working.
  13. How would this help the west?
  14. Wrestling at any of those schools would now have a tremendous travel price tag. It may have gotten less likely with the new conference.
  15. Legally I would definitely agree. But I think in a sporting context, it's okay to take sporting issues more seriously than non-sporting ones. This is why the suspensions for PEDs are always more severe than the suspensions for domestic violence. And not much destroys sports more than athletes gambling with insider info. It may be far less immoral, but it is far more dangerous to sports.
  16. You don't see a defense of insider trading everyday.
  17. How would this increase scoring? It might encourage the winning wrestler to score more points in some situations, but it definitely encourages the losing wrestler to do nothing in all situations.
  18. Thanks for telling us how it is. That other guy was getting annoying with his facts.
  19. Who is cutting the big weight? Their guys are smaller than average and tons of them have moved up in weight class. From last year's postseason roster... Wittcraft was big. He dropped a weight to fill the roster. Fix is average size. Young is very small. Voinovich definitely wasn't big. Gfellar was up multiple weights over his career and was a small 157. Sheets was up a weight last year and wasn't big at 165. Plott was average sized. Wittlake jumped two weights and was tiny at 184. Surber was a full sized 197. Doucet wasn't cutting like most heavyweights. I see one guy who cut significant weight and a bunch of guys who were small for their weight. What am I missing that you see?
  20. I love this one. Aside from Marstellar trying to make the team, this is a decade(s) old thing. In recent years they've absolutely been smaller than their opponents, and they've had tons of guys go up in weight. I think Oliver's sucked out junior year was the end of them cutting huge weight for the sake of it.
  21. Plainview. I lived in the panhandle briefly, so I should have known the difference.
  22. They've been going to Kearney, Nebraska and Edmund, Oklahoma and Longview, Texas and other places like that for a long time. Texas kids don't get much choice if they want to wrestle at the next level. I don't think they'll be very good, but an inability to attract Texas kids won't be a negative for them.
  23. I moved to the Seattle area in June and I've been told the east half of the state has sun. I have yet to confirm it.
  24. So are we talking about how old he will be on the wrestling mat or in the chemistry lab?
