Smith has a sample size of zero matches <174lbs since his Junior year in High School (2019-20).  He has nothing to base a consistency statement off of and has proven nothing at 174lbs.

I had to go back and see if I said something about 174 specifically…I did not. You coming in here all kinds of hot for no reason…

Big pick up for them. Especially in a year where 74 is wide open (depending on what PSU does). He could make the finals

Yea and I’m sure his intent is probably going to 174 and filling that gap but we don’t really know if he can hold it or where any of these guys are going to fit in. I like having him on board because he’s wrestled heavier successfully and that cut for Fishback is brutal. I know Fishback will want to stick with 184…but again, it’s just good to have options. It’s a good pick up for the Buckeyes either way. Everyone’s sleeping on Birden too…his wrestle offs with Paddy were to the wire (he won one of the three) and Paddy ended up AA. Birden hung with other upper level guys. If he’s taking a jump up serious and hitting the weights he could be a suitable 174.

Tom Crook is a great kid.  High character addition for that Indiana program.  Looking forward to watching him compete next season.

A ) I didn't come in hot, apologies if it seemed so.

B ) You said you didn't understand why Norman was considered a better option, or at the very least why folks weren't as high on Smith.  He said he is going 174lbs this season, so that is what makes it relevant.  He hasn't been that light for seven years and wasn't a small 197lber in most eyes.

No worries. I think you mixed my comments up with someone else’s…I didn’t say anything about not understanding why people think Norman is considered a better option or why people aren’t as high on Smith. I actually stated why all the talks been about Norman…I mean I get it I just don’t agree with it and said as much. My later comments clarify I wasn’t even talking about weight specific things just dudes in the room.

I'm also not angry or defensive…just so no one’s on the wrong foot here.

You're golden, man.  That was why I apologized.

I am a crotchety old black man who has been around this sport since the 70s.  My brain gets jumbled sometimes.

Honestly I think this is more symbolic than anything.  I believe your assessment is correct.  Still I feel for these guys who were sold a dream that ended up being nipped in the bud; so I'm fine with honoring the symbolism

Roadrunners have been bringing a few guys home. Good for them! As a reminder, CSUB still has a team and has not folded.

Big fan of the Smith pickup for the Bucks. Personally preferred him over Norman. This move MIGHT bump the Bucks into the top 5 preseason. I still think 149 is open between Kade Brown and Shaw, with Brown emerging as the starter. Could be the only weight where AA is considered a long shot.

I think it's really just precautionary to the entire situation.... If Tarleton told me I didn't need to go into the portal, I would go into the portal. If the NCAA said, you don't need to go into the portal, I would go into the portal. If Little Rock said, you still have eligibility....well I  would still go into the portal.
