I’m sure they’ll be active and generous in the portal. They have too. They’ve struggled to recruit and slipped into a pattern (culture) of a mixed team of recruited guys and paid mercenaries. The bigger problem I see is HOW they spend the money. Like it or not, the Portal and NIL are a part of the game now, but even there Iowa is struggling. Slumlord millionaire doesn’t get very good ROI it seems. It’s very much boom (Buchanan) or bust (a long and growing list).

And boy did this thread trigger someone. 😂😂😂 Whose turn is it to do a wellness check?? Expect to see lipstick, high heels, Cheeto stained sweat pants and a Cael collectors item Wheaties box on a dart board.

What I think hurts a lot of teams (besides holes in the line up) is lack of depth in the line up.  If you look currently at Penn State and Oklahoma State, they have numer 2 and number 3 guys at weights that can go and score points for them in duals and tournaments if their starter is banged up and can't go.

According to Askren, MM transfer had zero to do with money.  I think Welsh was the same.  Anyway, Iowa and Brands will fill their needs with transfers and pay whatever it takes.  That's what coaches do, because that is what is in their best interest.   The ones that don't either don't have the gaps or don't have the money.  Here is the summary chart of Part 1 of my analysis.  Part 2 is forward looking and Part 3 is how it all relates to points at NCAAs.  Part 3 is incomplete and quite time consuming.  Will start publishing when Part 3 is complete and written analysis is complete.

My hypothesis is that in order to reach top tier status you have to recruit top tier wrestlers.   The replacement rate each year is at least 3, probably more.  You have 10 weight classes and 4 years or eligibility.  That's 2.5 average per year, but it is higher due to injuries, transfers, underperformance (over overrating), and weight class overlap.  If you have successive years of under-recruiting, you have to bolster it with transfers.  If you look at the underlying team stats it becomes evident where those years fall.  It hit Michigan hard.  It hit PSU hard.  PSU had a year where their only top 100 recruit was Levi Haines.

I'll give you a hint on the future look in Part 2.   Next year may suck for Iowa, which is why they will hit the portal, but '28 is going to be a whole lot brighter.

Well, here's their predicted roster for next season:

125 - DeLuca (R-Fr)

133 - OPEN

141 - Bailey (Sr)

149 - Block (Jr)

157 - Williams (Sr)

165 - OPEN

174 - Arnold (Jr)

184 - Ferrari (R-So)

197 - Ludington (R-Fr)

285 - Kueter (Jr)

Prospects

Estrada (157) - R-So

Bowling IV (174) - R-Fr

Miller (184) - R-Fr

Mocco (285) - Fr

For me, definite spend on 133, possible spending on 165 (they could shuffle some guys to that weight). I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move for Braeden (not the smartest move, but I can see them make that push) and either him or Bailey goes 133.

If they go for 165, a guy like Barbosa would make sense. Blaze obviously, but doubt he's leaving Purdue.

TLDR: Spending on two weight classes (unless an unbelievable opportunity comes up) max, smaller spend than you'd expect.

I think the try to bring hunter garvin back home for 165, 133 if like to see them delevop one of the many 125 pounders, put some muscle on Cruz and spend some time in the room working on his offense and scrambling. Estrada over Williams so I would imagine a williams v. Block for 149

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

Not every transfer is about money. Some just transfer to better themselves. Does anyone really thank MM went to PSU for just money not the better coaching and room to get better and who knows maybe go to Worlds and Olympics someday. NIL is not king in every wrestlers eye

I think for PSU there's also a connection with the KD Wrestling Club, where guys like PJ, Rocco, RBY (affiliation) and now coming Jayden James, Will Soto, and Gavin Mangano are a part of. So the Rocco transfer is a little bit linked to that.

Oh ok.  Just wanted to see that you admitted you copy pasted AI that was rife with errors and didn't bother to correct it.  What about Santino Robinson and AJ Heeg?  Did they also transfer to Penn State too?

Rocco also got bigger offers from bigger schools.

But who switched it off from the original topic (Iowa)?

One must understand psu fans sling their stuff in only one direction.  Making sure the record is straight psu is tossing bags of $$ at people too.   In same large volume as everyone else who can.

I may even add.   They have been slinging bags of $$$ at athletes even before it was nil.   Allegedly

That in no way answers the question you quoted.  Are you, or are you not for staying on topic?

This is a message board.  There is no staying on topic … it’s in the definition of a message board.

you can go pile onto one of the 83 threads started about Iowa needing a coaching change this week.  There may be new info in one of them that hadn’t been rehashed 83 million times before

One thing is clear, Iowa is not getting nearly the return on its NIL spend as Penn State.  That must make you angry.

It doesn’t.  Just shows there is room for improvement

I mean I personally hope Iowa ups its NIL/transfer portal activity.  They're around 50% transfer starters for the last few years.  I would like to see it get closer to 75%.
