You and I know that nobody is ever beating Messenbrink

This is probably true but will he ever show up.

Shocked everyone focused so hard on stopping his offense, that no one even mentioned stopping his defense or initiating your own offense.

One can block him all day, but he will stall you out before the 3rd period. He’s coming, guns blazing, and will earn 2-3 stalls in the 1st if you don’t attack. Re-attacks will not deter the Ref from seeing the opponent not initiating their own offense. The guy is a menace, and I’m privileged to get to watch him wrestle. The Hodge is his to lose.

Tell him he’s a bad singer. He forfeits and runs crying from the arena.

This is the correct answer.

Only guys that have kept it close or beaten him are uber elite athletes that have timed him breaking his stance (he does that a lot less now and shots to crowd you rather than lunging to close distance) and they deflect his pressure and circle (carr and JB did this the best). I think across all styles and levles he has 3 losses to Carr, 1 to JB and 1 to Takahashi since his freshman year. That is 4 Ncaa titles 8 world/olympic titles and Carr was mental lapses from beating Sidakov and Valiev this year. (I do not think JB could beat him anymore given Mitchell getting better and JB getting older) Takahashi has also wrestled less than stellar since senior worlds having lost to Aoyagi who mitchell beat and also took a few other losses since then. So I think the number of people in the world that can beat him at or around 165lbs is probably easily countable on 1 hand and may not actually exist, that remains to be seen until the open.

This makes sense. There will be a time and place, where the man will get beat. Not in Cleveland this year.

Obviously Mitchell has an extremely high attack rate, how do you even start to formulate a game plan??

I think you have to break it down which attack is his most successful? Let's start there.

I think you obviously know that Mitchell isn't going to pessure you in straight on, and if he does he will still use the straight on attack to get you to back up so he can get to a reattack from the side, this extra space usually gives him an allowance to make a quick step to one side and then he has a great attack at you from about a 45 degree angle from the side. His most successful- a shot to reattack misdirection double.

After thinking about it and watching how many times caliendo has tried to control Mitchell's side shot attacks by keeping him straight on and  (in the phone booth). I think instead you have to be moving more than mitchell you have to pick a directiion and continue to circle him faster than he can get ahead of it to try and mos direct you.

The other option is speed, I think if you were fast enough to move (on your knees) with him after his initial shot to counter his next shot  and then get to your feet and start working on a corner faster than him. If you were fast enough to know that after his initial shot he typically reaatcks from the right side and could beat him to it, that would take away most of his scoring.

The problem. He is Mitchell and he is better at more than just re attacks, he is great at pretty much everything. That's why I think you have to target what he is best at (reattacks) and then go from there.

The other problem- I dont know if anyone in the world is fast enough to counter the re-attacks.

I know the flo boys think that if you put a good ride on him that's the best way to wear him down. Maybe so. But that means you need to be on top and that doesn't happen much.

If you had to gameplan for someone like Mesenbrink where would you start? What would you do?

And if you think this thread is dumb just shame me, that way I don't make another one

Gotta outscramble him and get exposure
