I thought college wrestling had a new ally with Trump in the White House. Disappointed that there's no college wrestling representation at the White House conference on saving college sports. Though the rise of NIL and revenue sharing mostly affects football and basketball, it's also impacted Olympic sports with a few programs at the top getting NIL and all the rest seeing their budgets further reduced to fund football revenue sharing.

With Trump attending NCAAs last year, MarkWayne Mullin having a kid on the Oklahoma State roster, and Jim Jordan's ties to the sport, I hoped someone would have lobbied to get college wrestling a seat at the table. Particularly given that one of the stated goals of the meeting is protecting college programs.

I bet the admin would have been proud to include wrestling Fletch. The question is were they even asked?

Wrestling is obviously, no, OBVIOUSLY, a sport where a dude can seriously injure a woman. Women's wrestling needs to be for women only.

Tell that to Julianna O’Campo who placed at state in Indiana and CHOSE to continue to kick dudes asses even after the IHSAA sanctioned girls wrestling 😊

Who do you think would win if the boys high school state champs wrestled against the NCAA woman's champs??

On a personal note, I am SO glad they have woman's wrestling at the high school and college level!  It is a great addition to the sport!

Probably what happened when a 15 year old boys Texas elite soccer team beat the US Women’s National  team in a scrimmage 5-2.

lol - what a disgrace that the worlds greatest sport even got to this point. Effing joke. Anyone been to the Giant Center PA tourney last few years? What’s up with all those empty seats? Wasn’t like 10 years ago - what happened? Ha, guys like the soy who ran fridays mailbag years ago knew all along where this sport was heading.

Why?

Nobody said they are not great female wrestlers who can hold their own. Its the rest of them I am concerned about.

106 lbs is so small she’s probably competing against small freshmen etc …. Great accomplishment but it’s not like that weight is realistically representative.

In 2025 looks like she went 0-1 bbq at state as well losing 7-1 in the first round and not getting pulled into the wrestle backs

If you google, you will also see that the women's hockey team has met the same fate when playing boy's high school teams.  They seemed to play boys' teams multiple times before each Olympics, sometimes winning, but often losing.  This year, they seemed to skip those scrimmages for some reason.

Thursday and Friday never had a great turnout a PIAAs but only the finals was televised for so many years people took that PBS/PCN crowd on Saturday and extrapolated it.    Saturday is expected to be a little down since the BIGs are only about an hour away.

Never? You seem to always have all the answers. I've been attending since 2000 when I first moved here. I’m telling you from the 50 yard line in section 120, things have changed for the worse. And according to annual conversations among attendees, the reason is clear - just not here among the PC spy’s.

I think my first PIAAs was in 1984 or 1985 so I have a pretty good understanding.

Every match on every mat being broadcast now might hurt attendance a little as I'm sitting at home instead making the trek.  I talk to a family member of a kid who qualified a couple of times a week.  Mom and Dad were the only ones going to Hershey as 15 other aunts, uncles, cousin and grandma were having a watch party at an uncle's instead.

Pennsylvania seniors traditionally enjoyed watching their grandsons perform at the states from the comfort of their home via PCN for FREE. Not anymore. I’m on the side of our seniors and literally drove to PIAA headquarters to voice my opinion when this decision was made many years ago. On record and documented from a nobody with bigger cujones than most.

No sports are represented.  Some conference commissioners and some current/former ADS will be there and a few big names like Saban and Tiger Woods but no active coaches or athletes will be in attendance.

If Saban's there, it wouldn't have killed them to invite Dan Gable too. Attending NCAAs but doing nothing else for the sport doesn't really help.

The greatest travesty is that Indiana does not have true wrestlebacks. If you lose in the first round, you're finished. If you lose in the QF, the best you can do is 5th. It's all a quasi-blind draw as well, no seeding beyond placement in the semi-state round.

Because they don’t have wrestle backs tard. Its actually one of the hotly contested subjects in the Indiana high school scene

is 106 a real appropriate weight one would use to compare men v women?

Yes the whole Indiana tournament is a travesty. They have turned out some bad ass wrestlers though.

Outcome of the conference was not entirely bad for wrestling/non-revenue sports - proposed EO to limit athlete money to scholarships + $15K-25K. Bad for the star quarterbacks, but good for other sports which now may not have all their funding stripped.

Also an acknowledgement that NIL is not working as it's supposed to. It's pay-for-performance masked as a licensing agreement.

The exact same class of arguments used by bigots in the 1960s to justify the necessity of segregation, and a perfect example for why schools need to teach uncensored versions history and sociology.

Clearly not the same.

Wow...you seriously are going to try and equate the two things...yikes!

Again, answer the question...who would win, handedly, if the boys high school state champs wrestled the collage NCAA women's champs??  I'll even let you pick the state for the boy's champs.
