I think the point that everyone misses, and we clearly agree on, is that our grief isn't taking away from Marcus' win, or insinuating that he would have lost if stalling were actually called. The grief is that guys are allowed to wrestle this style with impunity. As a fan I want to watch guys wrestle, and the way things are currently called, we get a lot of matches with very, very little wrestling. Then we are left feeling let down by a result that doesn't really tell us anything about who the better wrestler was in that match.

I'd be really curious if @Wrestleknownothing has the stats readily available and they agree, but I feel like 10-15 years ago, there were significantly less 0-0 firsts, and 1-1 OTs. I remember the NCAA finals usually got boring because that's when guys wrestled more cautiously like today's wrestlers wrestle each and every match against a good opponent.

I only have it for NCAA matches. I did a post on here a while back about the impact of the 3pt TD (negative) that you can look at. I will update it after this year's tournie and post it on our website.

You've got your facts all screwed up.  In 2023, Kerkvliet lost to Parris, in 2024 he went undefeated and beat Davisdson to win the title.  In 2025 Kerkvliet was undefeated going into BIGs but was given the 2 seed.

And he lost in the finals at bigs and lost in the semis at NCAAs.  Did they get it right then?

Sure, they got it right but you got your argument wrong.  If you just said, "Kirk should've been the #1 seed at Big's because he was the returning NCAA champ & undefeated" than your Byrd argument stands.  Be consistent and don't let your PSU hatred get you off track too easily.

You’re comparing gable Stevenson’s  as also an undefeated ncaa champ in 2022 to a true frosh.  I don’t think it’s the same comparison.

Steveson did not win it his freshman year.  I can't tell if your just trolling at this point (impressive commitment) or yet again your PSU hatred is short circuiting your brain function

What year do you think Kirk was snubbed as the 2 seed at bigs and who was the 1 seed at bigs that year

The last ncaa tourney gable Stevenson wrestled in… prior to 2025.   what did he finish.  And what was his overall record that season?

Gable Steveson was not the returning NCAA champ last year.  Kirkvliet was.  By your own standard that means any rational fan would've given him the #1 seed.  If thats your take fair enough.  If not, than your standard of the #1 seed has a lot of gaping holes.

Gable Stevenson was an undefeated ncaa champ the last year he wrestled and also had a gold in the Olympics is the answer.

in Marcus blaze last ncaa season….  What did he finish at that ncaa tourney and what was his record that ncaa season?

You're already changing your standards.  Pretty simple.  Undefeated returning champs always get the #1 seed or they don't.  Once you say they don't than your argument falls apart.

If two undefeated returning/defending champs show up you need a tie breaker of some kind.   Stevenson was regarded as the best hwt ever prior to this…. And he showed the seed was right as he dismantled Kirk.  Kirk didn’t even make the third place bout the year he finished 6th right?

You also didn’t tell me what Marcus blaze finished at NCAAs in His last tourney.

do you see the silliness in comparing the two situations ?

byrd should be the #1 seed.

Last time I'm responding to you on this subject.  Steveson "earned" the #1 seed by having a better SOS and more dominant results against the same opponents.  He didn't get the #1 seed because he was regarded as the best hwt ever.

Kirk  placed 6th because he medically forfeited out after the loss to Hendrickson.  I guess the NCAA should've accounted for this in their seeding and done the same for Spencer Lee who must've been seeded to high in 2023

Irrelevant. Not a criteria for seeding

The silliness is setting different standards on seeding for different wrestlers based on perception or accolades in the past

There is a formula for this.  Byrd may very well be the #1 seed.  No one will go crazy if he is but it will not be because he won NCAA's last year

Not at big 10s I think he won those.  I remember some blue glasses saying it was a national travesty for someone who was injured to mff out of NCAAs after losing in the semis … probably a double standard or me not remembering correctly.   Probably. Who knows boss.
