Going to be a tough long season to be a Tiger wrestling fan.

Tigers get whipped on the road at Northern Iowa 22-14.  Takes me back to those lean years when we were always projecting to "next year!"  The great programs just reload.

Still no Cam Steed in the lineup.

@The_KC_Godfather and I have differing opinions about the team trajectory, but Sinclair will leave with a couple nattys (I have McEnally with 3 and little Focus with 2, you do the math + weights).

Mendoza is going to win 2x all IL bias aside.

Mizzou has always been top-heavy, this is no different.

i am an idiot on the internet

Apparently this is a long standing issue for Mizzou with Northern Iowa…

Agree, and I'll add Josh Edmond to that list.  He always seems to wrestle to the level of his opponent.  He can look great against a guy ranked 10 spots above him and turn around and lose to an unranked wrestler.  Doesn't seem to wrestle hard every match, throughout the match.  Would love to see Mendoza take his spot in the lineup.

Hilton seems to be wrestling much better than Seltzer as well.

Frustrating loss yesterday!

I have never seen a wrestler give up  more 5+ leads than Kade Moore. So frustrating. Mauger had been wrestling well until that match. Not having Steed hurt badly. Mendoza teched Basile at the Cougar Clash a week ago. Steed's concussion looked bad I didn't expect to see him until Arizona State.  They have the Soldier Salute coming up. These are the wrestlers I expect to see there.
125- Benter (No Mauger, he has wrestled at everything. Give him some rest)
133- Moore, Walker, Harris (If Moore is there. Then you know that it is basically place better than Walker to keep the spot or else redshirts might be pulled)
141- Seltzer, Hilton, Uhls, Roller (Seltzer has two good wins over Wells & Clark. Hilton has one over Pucino)
149- Mendoza, Maybe Pulliam
157- Teague Travis (making his Mizzou debut), Conway, Gleason
165- Mayfield (Maybe..needs some wins and matches has had a tough schedule), Bambinelli
174- Heiser, Westpfahl, Stoffel (I would give it 10% Steed wrestles here)
184- Cole
197- No one
285- Stoner, Jackson, Stillwell
Although the True Freshmen don't have great records I think they have done well.
Bambinelli is 3-7 besides loses to teammates he has loses to Scoles, Downey(5-3), Woodcock, and qualifier Thomsen (MFF).
Heiser is 7-5 with loses to Minto, Espinosa-Owens, Facundo, Collin Kelly, plus a MFF
Gleason is 4-4 with loses to Buell, Weston, Fortino (all d-1 starters) and lost to Ruble of Purdue.
I think once these Freshman go to tournaments that aren't all D-1 starters. They will rack up wins.

Warren is a hoot.  He mentioned Chip Bunner toward the end.  Both those guys were part of our Missouri Jr. Nats team back in the day.  We had a pretty salty team back then Sammy Henson, Nick and Tony Purler, Gabe Arnold's dad, Phil.

But yes, Mizzou and NI always scrap hard.  Mizzou had a run for a short while when they had their number, but not recently.  I'm a Mark and Doug Schwab fan.  Love their intensity and toughness.  NI reflects their style and grit.

97-2000 I wrestled FS at STCW for Team Mo Select. Chip Bunner was a coach there along with Martin and others. Never met him prior as he coached at Wentzville his Alma mater and I was at FHC. Good dude and Coach. He drove us around all over in one of those white vans, Mo and Iowa. Heard he left coaching and joined the Army.

No Sinclair?

Angelo, Mcenelly, and Sinclair would’ve been fun.

I would love to see that round robin. Sinclair definitely doesn’t shy away from competition.

I was coaching a kids club and we were driving to St Louis in the 70's to wrestle tournaments.  We would regularly see the Martin's, Fran and Craig, also the Andersons (Doug).  They were little tikes back then.  Of course, they became big school state Champs, while several of the kids I coached became smaller school state Champs.  This was back in the days when Jack Crider was coaching at Forest Park JC and was a big part of the St Louis wrestling scene.  Shep Pittman, Danny Boudria, were in that mix of coaches.  I go way back, and on both sides of the state.  The elder Charlie Sheretz was winning state championships at NW HS, King Parsons was a stud for Maplewood Richmond Heights.  Robes were the popular warmup.  Yah, I'm older than dirt.

I actually ran into Craig Martin while waiting in the entrance line at a MU dual.

I happened to come across the '91 Big 8 tournament results and it's interesting how many placers came from the St. Louis area (and even the GAC) and KS/MO in general.

118:

1st: Sammy Henson - Mizzou (Francis Howell)

2nd: Eric Akin - Iowa State (Bishop Miege in Overland Park, KS)

4th: Nick Purler - Oklahoma State (Wentzville)

126:

3rd: Tony Purler - Oklahoma State (Wentzville)

134:

4th: Kenny Liddell - Mizzou (McCluer North)

142:

2nd: Chip Bunner - Mizzou (Wentzville)

158:

1st: Pat Smith - Oklahoma State (Not MO/KS, but it's Pat Smith)

4th: Greg Warren - Mizzou (Kirkwood)

167:

4th: Shaon Fry - Mizzou (Oak Grove)

190:

1st: Randy Couture - Oklahoma State (Not MO/KS, but it's The Natural)

The GAC has been historically one of if not the best conference in Mo. Of course it has some down yrs, but overall idk that any other conference can compete top to bottom. I’ve seen and I’m sure most of you have also, a slew of state medalist and champions not place top 4 at GAC. Im a little young for the Henson, Purler matches, but the Eric Todd Jake Newsham match at GAC there SR year was tremendous. Both won state at 189 that year. Obviously Jake 3A and Todd 4A.

8 of the last 10 years, they have been in the top 10 at NCAAs. If Elam was still there, they'd be top 10 this year. When Smith took over, Missouri was a joke. He is a hall of fame coach and I think he will get things back in order.

I agree that the sky is not falling, but although Mizzou struggled in the final year's of Wes Roper's tenure,  they were a fairly consistent top 20 to top 25 team in the 80's and early 90's.  They finished as high as 10th in 1984.  So there was wrestling at Mizzou prior to Smith's arrival.  Also, during that time mentioned, there were many more (100 plus) D1 programs (one within the state) and D2/D3 guys could compete at the D1 tournament.
