sounds like Barr may have gotten a few ribs cracked from those guts, not sure we see him tomorrow.

Let's hope it was just a bruise.  Even then, I'm guessing there's going to be some pain to fight through.

Iranian was tough. Pretty even on their feet but man, what a monster gut.

he was pretty competitive with the senior 97kg's at Asians. Definitely a monster physically.

I just "rewound"😏 and watched the Mesenbrink/Aoyagi semi bout... what a dramatic ending to a close-fought bout.

Amazing!

Looks like Aoyagi learned the hard way how Mitch likes to handfight...

Nor should they.  Folk is irrelevant here.

But UWW should care that the wrestler being rewarded is the one initiating the offense, not the one who merely redirects that offense in a modest way when they were already going down.  You can see it's harming the sport, as guys hold back in attacking the legs, and UWW should care about that too.

Even if UWW sees it differently, they should care that when this type of scoring sequence comes up, it gets scored differently, almost every time. Viewers don't understand it, making it less fan friendly.  It gets challenged, almost every time, interrupting the match flow and causing delay.  When challenged, more often than not it gets rescored, and the rescoring is itself inconsistent.  Some times the errors are at a disastrously high level and lead to corruption allegations, endangering the sport's Olympic status (e.g. Gomez's Olympic robbery, at 8:20:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0v5-wPfM8o).

I remember this was a big problem back in 2009-11, and they fixed it in 2012, deciding (correctly) that this would pretty much always be the leg attacking wrestler's points, even if they exposed themselves while completing the move -- just as you don't lose points if you expose your back executing a throw. Life was good and all made sense. But then a few years later, for reasons I'll never understand, they moved away from that, and now, for the last decade, it's been this horrible case-by-case judgment call of whether the defending wrestler seemed to "initiate" something en route to their being taken down.

It's a poison in our sport.

OK, off my soapbox. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.  :]

That is better.  But you definitely mentioned folk the first time!  Can't look at FS from a collegiate lens.  This read much better.

I mentioned it, just as you mentioned it.  But I never said freestyle should try to mimic folk rules. I only mentioned folk to describe the position we're referring to. I actually prefer freestyle's exposure rules to folk's. It's just that in the current rule set, we're too often giving the points inconsistently and to the wrong guy.
