I'm going with Shia LaBoeuf. It was kind of understood early on that he was gonna be the next Tom Hanks, which is telling cause Hanks doesn't have that much range and is generally playing an everyman type so he's pretty generic to have a crowned successor, and has a reputation as a method actor....but he's just never commanded the screen. His career survived, in terms of being a known name that has been around for decades, but i don't know why.

I was excited for the next Tom Hanks and remember hearing the comparisons but agreed, that one didn't pan out...

I love the Rock but he just isn't a great actor in my opinion but we'll see how his next couple of movies are as they look a bit more serious.

Mark Wahlberg is another one that comes to mind.

Kevin Costner.

I don't think he's that bad but he really only plays one character. In Bull Durham that character is great, in Robin Hood (which i think is a great movie, I'd describe it as an alan rickman movie) its just bizarre.

I remember him droning on in Dances with Wolves and it stuck with me. I hear it in every movie.

Costner is way overrated.   In robin hood, he goes in and out of a fake english accent until he just gives up on it.   He's just the worst.   Tom Cruise is good but one dimensional so also overrated.

I think Tim Blake Nelson and Johnny Depp are really good actors with great range.

yeah I've liked that movie or made myself watch it beginning to end. Yeah I get being put off by pretentious overbearing oscar bait, though I'd say that criticism has one foot in "pulls me out of the movie" as opposed to pure acting criticisms.

I started another topic to point out that Gary Oldman has infinite range and is easily easily the best actor who ever lived.

Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Keanu Reeves...

I don't know about Leto, but agree with the other two.   Reeves is just wooden.   Lawrence is too but that worked for her stoic character in the hunger games.   But she is pretty wooden herself.

Anyone who thinks Reeves is a great actor is an idiot.   I would think everyone knows he's the worst.   But John Wick etc are more action and he can do that if he doesn't speak.  It's when he speaks that he ruins everything.   But I hear he is one of  the nicest of the A list actors out there.   I have no ill will toward him, just amazed that he made it but Bill did not.
