Guys,

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Rahman’s overall chances of becoming the greatest Iranian wrestler of all time. Of course, winning Olympic gold is a must, but considering he’s only 23, he could realistically compete into his early 30s. If he manages to rack up more World Championship golds and secure that Olympic gold, where would you rank him among Iran’s all-time greats?

I think that if he wants that continued success, he needs to go up in weight.  65 KG is not an old man's weight, nor will it ever be.

Also, add in that there have been persistent rumors that he is not long for 65 KG for years, and that also adds in that he will be outpaced by father time sooner rather than later.

Yazdani has 10 medals, w/ four being Golds.  He is one person away from having eight Golds.

Amouzad would have to medal the next seven years to catch up on the medal count at the same age - no down years, and that is if Yazdani doesn't wrestle/medal ever again.

Wow thank you for that detailed response. I completely agree with you. It's also interesting you mentioned Amouzad moving up on weight. That is absolutely the right approach if he wants to keep wrestling. And you are absolutely right about the medal counts for Yazdani in comparison to Amouzad, 10 v 3 (counting Worlds and Olympics). Now speaking of Yazdani, if he doesn't wrestle anymore, where is his place in Iran's wrestling and also where would you place him all time in the world?

Zare has entered the chat. The only person who can stop him in the forseeable future will be Masoumi.

At 24 years of age (just one year older) he has six medals w/ three Golds.  He is up on Amouzad and on pace to surpass Yazdani prior to his 30th Birthday.

Oh you are so correct about Zare. He is only a year older than Amouzad. They have to catch Abdollah Movahed and Yazdani to be considered Iran's GOAT.

Surely you jest- I was being led to believe it would be Hendrickson. They even had a fancy press conference a meagre few days ago.

Now you're talking two different methods of analysis.

Movahed dominated the entire world for six straight years winning Gold in the 1960s a few times.  That is/was a different era, as well.  I don't think we've ever had an era where there is so much talent throughout the world.

I think right now Yazdani is a good standard, but I am not Iranian.  Zare is definitely going to surpass him, providing health holds strong.

Rahman has no chance of winning Olympic gold. His time was 2024 if he was going to do it.

How/why do you figure?

He just beat the guy that beat him last year at the Olympics.  Who is going to catch him by 2028?

When you say no shot, do you mean 0% or just a lower percentage in 2028 than he had in 2024?

I don't think he will be able to make 65 in 2028, or at least not be effective to the level of his expectations. Friend of a friend of a friend of my neighbor's uncle's stepkid heard he was pulling very hard Sunday night.

Assuming this means you think he has no chance to stay at 65kg and that he can't reach the same level when he grows into 74kg?

How many people have been relevent at 65 for 6 years? I can't remember anyone recently and there has been some great wrestlers at this weight. That's what it would take, he won aged 20 in 2022. Yes, 0 chance. I'm 100% sure he wont be a gold winner in 2028.

He cant replicate his success at 74
