Socialism is the clown prince of economic systems.   All are equal, but as history has shown, some are more equal than others.   That's just the way it is because privilege and power has its rewards.   That is anti socialist but it is how the socialist world works.

Having strong public schools (including funding) creates equal opportunity, or at least somewhat levels the playing field.  Cutting funding to public schools destroys it.

Unfortunately public schools and their obsession with "equity" is a big part of the problem.

Go ahead and change that then, but don't use that as an excuse to destroy funding.

Not against properly funding schools, but equity (equal outcome) hurts some of the brightest and hardest working students.

Like you said, it needs to go.

How much worse could test scores get?   Average army educated posters may be able to teach better in Chicago

State test scores are in for Chicago Public Schools, and fewer than 1-in-3 students could read and fewer than 1-in-5 do math at their elementary grade level in 2024.

Point? You think it's the teachers fault? Will funding cuts fix it?

Complete elimination of something that bad would hardly change the education on average for kids in these blue cities.

Yeah, that is pretty awful.  I am not sure what a solution for that environment would be.  I'd imagine that you'd need a radical overhaul of everything--- starting with the career administrators who spent two or fewer years in a classroom and couldn't hack it.  Most would be gone, and all are overpaid.  A lot of these admins are made up bs political positions. The union probably presents issues too, but that would be difficult to solve.  And a lot of the issues start in the home and the environments the kids are raised in.

1 in 5 kids can read at their level.   Throwing rocks at books may yield better results

So eliminate Public Schools in Chicago?

Why do teachers get coddled.   They want to not be reviewed.  They want tenure.  They get freaking mental health days once a month and days to “clean” their rooms lol.  The system is a joke and they are not educating.  I’m not for eliminating schools but no one in ctu or democrat leadership admits they suck at educating.   They are not working to fix shit.   They spend more time telling kids about gender ideology than teaching actual skills required in life.

Could a bigger problem be that 95% of kids in public schools are in poverty, have broken homes, abusive childhoods and come from crime ridden neighborhoods? I've heard that rich kids never attend public schools in Chicago. The avg test score for these groups is always very low, regardless of the teachers.

And?   You and your punting on fixing issues again.   I grew up on the south side of Chicago in a crap neighborhood poor but my parents would not let me out of the house if any grade dipped below a B.   End of story.  No sports.  Nothing.

Nope. Fix issues the best u can but  avg test scores in Chicago Public Schools will always suck when all these kids are poor. Gotta accept that. Unless u want to expel all of them for any little problrm. Test scores don't tell you how good a school is. Mostly depends on demographics.

Then cap the tax $ we give the schools.     And you’re correct.  These gang kids holistically will never get better.  The parents don’t give a shit.   They haven’t since the 60s or 70s.   I think 1 in 3 have a father in the picture.  Maybe less.    They’re in gangs at a young age.  The adults are on drugs.

Key trends

Prior to capitalism, the way people amassed great wealth was by looting, plundering and enslaving their fellow man. Capitalism made it possible to become wealthy by serving your fellow man
