I hope democrats rally behind the right to burn the flag tonight on CNN.

I don't agree with a lot of things Republicans say. But they have the right to say them. If you feel like you need to burn the flag, good for you. If you want to march around with torches chanting "They will not replace us", that is also your right.

What I don't agree with is chipping away at the first amendment like this.

I think free speech is definitely something that shouldn't be chipped away at...just like the 2nd amendment. I assume your logic holds true for 2A too Trip??  Obviously we know the answer to that.....

However, do I have a problem with doing background checks...not really but understand why people wouldn't want them.  Do I have a problem with trying to not allow mentally ill people or those that are convicted of domestic violence from legally possessing a firearm...not really.

And similar to those things, I have no problem banning burning of flags...as it takes "free speech" from being about speech and turns it into a hideous action and thus not about speech any longer.

Do you agree with government sponsored and mandated censorship of Twitter or Facebook for political reasons to help your party stay in power and win elections?

It's hilarious how you want to deflect from the issue, which is chipping away at the first amendment.

You skipped right past the literal censorship that took place during the last few election cycles .

Did anyone prevent the free exercise of speech? Please give me an example.

The Cover Up: Big Tech, the Swamp, and Mainstream Media Coordinated to Censor Americans’ Free Speech

Former Twitter employees testified on their decision to restrict protected speech and interfere in the democratic process

WASHINGTON — Today, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability held a hearing titled “Protecting Speech from Government Interference and Social Media Bias, Part 1: Twitter’s Role in Suppressing the Biden Laptop Story.”Chairman Comer and Committee Republicans detailed how Twitter worked closely with the federal government to actively monitor and censor Americans online. Under the leadership of former Twitter employees Vijaya Gadde, James Baker, and Yoel Roth, Twitter coordinated extensively with the FBI to disproportionately target Republican leaders, conservative activists, and certain media outlets. In October 2020, Twitter censored the New York Post’s story about the Biden family’s business schemes based on the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop, despite the article not violating any Twitter policies.

It’s hard to believe this has to be pointed out at this stage of the affair.  It’s been widely reported, even when dishonestly.

Then what about burning a shopping cart full of groceries outside Costco to protest high food prices?

I dont understand why the other two aren't speech issues but surely this one.

Because that isn't enshrined as free speech by the US Supreme Court?
