Yahya Thomas 2021?
1st Round: defeated 8th ranked Jaden Abas
2nd Round: defeated 9th ranked Legend Lamer (which doen't count for this exercise, but I would give him extra credit)
Backside: defeated Abas again, then Brock Mauller (3), then Boo Lewallen (4)

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Though I just had pork chops stuffed with prosciutto and fontina. And that was a winner.

Now, the other two are gonna be tough.

Gary McCall - 1990

1rst rd - Steve Martin (8)

QFs - Doug Wyland (1)

Cons Semis - Jeff Prescott (7)

3rd Place - Doug Wyland (1)

This was fun to figure out while the better half evoked executive power over the TV to binge an 1800's based British drama.

Only 7 wrestlers have 4 wins against top 8 seeded wrestlers in a single tournament from an unseeded position or the bottom half of the bracket.

Who is the last to do it?

you're probably the best poster of all time. JTTS be damned

Choose GIF

And you got the second question.

Only one remains.

What is your wife watching tomorrow night?

Ronnie Perry from Lock Haven?

Jesse Whitmer?

Jesse Whitmer took out three once, but he did it as a #6 seed.

Ronnie Perry only ever beat a single top 8 in a tournament and was a near miss on the seed that year (15).

Most likely not me looking up 50+ years of NCAA brackets!

I'll say it is pretty cool to see dozens of names pop up again over and over through the decades and continuing today, whether it be brothers, cousins and nephews. There really are some "wrestling royalty" families out there.

Then I will give you a hint. This wrestler comes from one of the few teams to win a team title, though they failed to win the year he set the record (if you can even call it that).

Sleep tight. And rest easy in the knowledge that you are correct.

It is not Richie Figueroa.

(One of my favorite jokes, sorry)

My guess for those that are looking.  Look around when asu won.  +1 -1 years or +/-2.   Happy hunting

I think JTTS was before my time but WKN has been the board MVP during my tenure

I wouldn't compare JTTS to either. He was a hofstra fan who knew the sport and teetered on the line between clever and snarky with every post.

I really like the sound of him.  I've never ever met a Hofstra fan

Agree with flyingcement and Hammerlock3 on WKN's status as best poster ever. Thought provoking and entertaining is a great combination.

Your flattery has earned another hint.

As a third place finisher this wrestler did half his damage on the front side with wins over #8 and #1, and half his damage on the back side with wins over #5 and #2.

The last one was tough...but like a true underdog, I pushed through and wasn't going to be denied (the hints helped)!

Verlyn Strellner, Iowa, 1969. Beat Ed Bannat (8) from Navy in R1, Charles Shivers (1) Oklahoma in Quarters, Lost to Chuck Jean (4), Iowa State in Semis. Verlyn then managed to avoid the let down on the front side and Proceeded to beat John Sorchinsky (5) from BYU in the consi semis. Wrapping up his 3rd place finish, he beat Ken Bos (2) from Cal Poly. Quite a run!

I love this kind of trivia, and a lot of these names I haven't heard in a long time, so it's nostalgic . . . but it took up 2 hours of my weekend/morning! 🤣

Look on the bright side. Now you are free to watch whatever your wife wants tonight. I am pulling for a romcom.
