Still a ways to go but that kid PJ wrestled in the finals, Melvin Miller, is still just a sophomore.  He is lightning quick and gave Duke all he wanted.  70k is a big weight for a 16 year old to impose himself on much more mature opponents.  Very impressive run to the Finals. He might just make that list in the next year.

Let's do some math:

Jayden James, who is in the same 2026 class at Bo Bassett, wrestled in the U17 class and has three years of U20 eligibility starting next year. Bo Bassett, conversely, has only one year of U20 eligibility remaining.

Melvin Miller, a *sophomore*, aged out of U17 and has to wrestle U20.

Think about that.

I don't think there's ever been the time when the US has ever had 5 high schoolers as good and accomplished as these five:

L Lockett

J Forrest

M Blaze

P Duke

B Bassett

How would you rank them, in freestyle?  Anyone more deserving of top 5 than these five?  (The Open's done but still plenty of time for upsets at U20s...)

Not a fan of him but shouldn't Knox be on this list? He just tf the field at U20

Knox is missing a signature win to me unless you go back to 2021 who's 1 over Lilldeahl or and that was before Luke cemented himself as the guy he is now. That's to no real fault of his own he just has not really had the opportunity.

just recalled he has the Bassett win too but Bo was in 8th grade.

Wait, how old is this Miller guy?

UWW saying he is 18. Ok, let’s pls stop highlighting that he is a Sophomore.  Let’s consider him a senior in HS.

I believe he turns 18 in October

Miller is a better prospect than Bassett.

Is he? I haven't done the research, but Bo has wins over past NCAA champ. I'm sure miller has a few good wins and will continue beating quality guys.

It was Lock Haven open... the DB doesn't show that he lost to Forrest, though that was count as a loss.

I think he was talking about something else.  He's referring to a folkstyle match between Luke Stanich (non Lilledahl) and Jax Forrest in an open tournament a couple seasons ago (in early 2024).  Here's the match:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yfyuxGo3lw

It was Stanich's true freshman year at Lehigh, and he went on to take 4th at NCAAs.  Forrest would've been a sophomore in high school at the time, albeit an older sophomore (probably 17).

Bingo... it WAS OT but not a last sec shot. (Luke  did take a shot but got whipped over for 3TD & 4NF. Thus a 8-1 SV for Forrest.)

Other than that, it was a close bout that wasn't decide until that shot.

😎tanxs for retrieving that, BAC.

ps... side note BAC. Luke took 5th at the NCAA's: not 4th. He lost in the consi SF to Wisconsin's Barnett majD 9-1... he previously dec. him in the Midlands tournament on his way to taking 1st.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Agree.  Should have started as 1-0 Miller instead of 4-0 Duke.  Step out preceded that 4-point throw.

Kinda like the four point bomb he hit on Russia after the step out and whistle in U20 World semi.  He didn't get credit for that move in Worlds, but a lot of American fans were screaming "robbery!"
