The number of competitors is stupid. Way too freaking big.  Lots of Mats, which is good.  But damn - must be a miserable experience for all involved.

Is it simply not possible to limit them?  Would limiting it mean that a qualifier event is needed?  Figure there is a way to put in an entrance requirement— place top X at listing of events?  I can see this being tough.

I mean it’s literally called the US Open… that’s kinda the point that anyone can enter. So you are going to have big brackets. I think most competitors like the challenge and welcome the opportunity to get a bunch of matches!

The U.S. Open in golf is an "open" because anyone can play if they make it through a qualifier. Open means that anyone can qualify to compete, not necessarily that literally anyone can compete in the singular event. I do think creating a qualification system, especially for u17/u20 could be difficult, but some of these brackets are a little absurd.

Does anyone know why Kellen Wolbert is projected to be a 157 in college, but is wrestling at 61kg in this tournament? I get that he wrestled at 144 during the regular season, but it seems like he may be a bit smaller. Just curious.

He missed weight day 2.Kinda shocked he entered at 61kg since hes an AWA guy Ben feels like a big picture dude and that kind of cutting weight does not seem to align with that.

purely an observation and I am sure just a coincidence, but its sort of funny that Herring and Jax make commitments and go on to have the best performances of their lives (to PSU and OKST respectively) and Bo commits to Iowa and takes his first age level domestic loss in almost 2 years.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Great clash of styles at 70 KG.  Melvin Miller is very quick and long and took most of the shots.  Duke is sturdy and strong - didn't take many risks, but physically manhandled Miller.  Wrestled smart and won.

5 point swing at the beginning. Pj stepped out before the throw would have been interesting if that was challenged.

worth noting Zepeda lost to Ninninger 6-3 on the backside but gave stanich his toughest match 8-8. Ninninger got teched by Bo in about 2 minutes. It seems like if you can withstand the pressure of Bo you are in the match there are just very few guys that can do that. If you cannot you are getting teched.

Duke maintained position. Duke didn't seem to take any risks at all. He spent most of his time holding position and countering Miller shots. I'm a little surprised he wasn't put on the shot clock for being so passive.
