Returning olympic/UWW medalists get a bye to Final X if they choose to stay at their weight.

US Open champions get a spot at Final X.

World Team Trials will only have weights where a returning medalist does not accept their Final X spot at the weight in which they medaled. Think of WTT as Last Chance.

The US Open has had its prominence restored. WTT on the other hand now gets wrestled in a high school gym so that's frustrating but a different conversation for a different day.

Last year was a very down year for the US. Only five returning medalists - one is retired (Taylor) and there is no guarantee that Brooks (or maybe Dake?) can hold their olympic weight. It is also very weird to not see Kyle Snyder's name on this list.

57 Spencer Lee
61 Vito Arujau
65
70
74 Kyle Dake
79
86 Aaron Brooks
92 David Taylor
97
125

So the winner of WTT gets a spot in the Open or the other spot in Final X?

US Open is wrestled first and each winner gets a spot at Final X.

WTT will be second and only compete in the following weights, with the winner getting the second Final X spot due to lack of olympic/world medalist:

65

70

79

92 [likely given Taylor's retirement]

97

125

I can't keep up with the schedule and preferred seeding/byes into the finals anymore. Its total chaos.

It's the same schedule as since Final X was introduced. Olympic Team Trials is the anomaly every fourth year.

Kyle Dake just said he's wrestling through 2028, but is undecided on weight even for this year. He said he's heard UWW may be changing the rules around weigh-ins and that would affect what weight he chooses.

57: Lilledahl over Deshazer (spencer sits)
61: Blaze over Forrest (Vito sits_
65: Mendez over Bartlett
70: Yianni over Duke
74: Carr over Mitchell (Dake sits but I think he does 79)
79: Dake over KOT (if healthy) Hamiti if not or Carter if he sucks down or chance if he sucks down
86: Zahid over Carter/Trent/Chance (brooks sits but he does 92)
92: Brooks idk if he is healthy over Kollin Moore (did he retire?)
125: Wyatt over Mason

I did this off the top of my head so sorry if any of these are glaringly bad based off this it seems like there could be a lot of turnover.

Has Hamiti wrestled at the Cadet/Junior/U* level internationally? I'm not used to seeing his name in these parts

I have never seen him wrestle freestyle but I feel like the way he wrestles would be very good for it. He is outstanding at sitting the corner I feel like he could get a lot of exposure from that position and I would think he could get pretty prolific on top. He is more so in the mix for me because with no word on JB, Nolf being done and chance as well as carter potentially moving up the weight has thinned out quite a bit.

Returning medalists can compete, right? If Spencer Lee wins, the other final x bid would go to 2nd place, right? That would be a little awkward but could serve as a good mind game tactic

Carter said recently he would go 86

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Additionally, for weights without a Final X medalist the US Open champ is not allowed to also enter World Team Trials.

70 is looking like it could be really interesting this year, Yianni, Green, Larkin, Duke, Taylor, Shapiro, Kasak, Jacques and a bunch more. It really gets interesting if Zain does compete again (which he hinted at in a recent Flo video). Also curious what weight McKenna ends up at

Zain at 70kg truly looks enormous.
