Long tagged as an underperformer Patrick finished 4th at 174 this year - wrestling well above seed.  I think he has earned the starting spot next year as Iowa's 174 pounder.   However, with Gabe Arnold also tabbed for this weight and Angelo Ferrari manning 184 how does this play out?

Could Kennedy or Arnold drop to 165?

Which lower weight AA at psu earned their spot next year over ono?

Angelo going to 197 may not be the worst idea for himself if he’s big enough.  Several of the top guys graduate, and it may be tougher to beat McEnelly than Barr.

IDK, Barr beat McEnelly twice recently (in Free) and Max couldn't generate any offense.  Barr is no slouch

I think a lot of people are too quick to assume that Arnold beats PK. I think it's likely that Arnold is the odd man out and Brands is going to have his hands full convincing him not to jump in the portal.

Arnold loves Iowa and has said so publicly many times.  He's not going anywhere.

Kennedy should absolutely stand his ground and defend his spot at 174 but it seems that the general opinion is that Arnold beats him in the room. OTOH, Gabe's dad, who says a lot of things, mentioned previously that the cut to 174 was pretty tough on him. So who knows.

If it comes to it, I could see Kennedy having a lot of success if he can make the cut to 157... but why should he? He's the returning AA and has the leverage here. Arnold and Brands will face some serious scrutiny if PK, a high-AA with a legit shot to be a finalist next year, ends up sitting and Gabe doesn't finish the season near the  middle of the podium. Also, Kenned has upped his NIL stock and could (maybe should) test the transfer portal waters, even if to only secure more $$$, and a greater likelihood of starting, from Nichols and the Swarm.

Obviously Barr is a stud also, I did say “may” after all :-).

I just watched this one and there were zero takedowns, Barr won with 2 shot clock points, a stepout, and a failed challenge point when they wiped off a potential takedown (off a counter) for McEnelly because Barr was injured (and was probably the correct call).

They also wrestled at the US Open which Barr won 6-2.  Both great competitors just pushing back on the idea that Barr is an easier path
