100% certain that Taylor will bring Okie State back up. How far is anyone's guess, especially with how special Penn State has been under the legend Cael Sanderson. However, just nitpick, almost half their points came from two portal guys. I give him a little cred also for Plott getting 15 points (he scored more last year though) and Spratley getting 17.5 points for 2nd place.

Their other 6 weights added up to 21.5 points. They won't match PSU anytime soon with that.

That's true and last night didn't demonstrate he can recruit amd develop recruits, as he must to compete with Penn State.

But of course given the timeline it wasn't possible for him to have demonstrated that this weekend.

What he did do was show that he can get the most out of a roster, which at a school with that tradition and that commitment to getting back to the top will translate to him being the most likely coach to challenge Penn State since 2011.

Doesn't mean it's going to happen but based on what I saw this year I think the odds are better with him than for Nebraska, Iowa, or anyone else.

I think it was significant and a positive for the sport that Trump attended the finals. I also think that PSU's record points total was overshadowed by a number of things, and that is healthy for the sport.

Nebraska fans have to be ecstatic about their overall outperformance, securing second, getting three to the finals, and winning twice.

Oklahoma State fans also have to be ecstatic about an upswing to third, three in the finals, two winners, and one of the two most epic upsets in NCAA wrestling history.

Iowa fans may be slightly disappointed with fourth place, but three in the finals (extending their decades long streak), with one champ who did it by beating a PSU wrestler is reason for celebration.

NC State gets a champ with two more years of eligibility.

Illinois wins a title in the year of @ILLINIWrestlingBlog

for Penn State to be as dominant as they were as other teams were also having historic runs... shows how dominant they are I think.

my first thought was we are in trouble, as a sport, b/c of the concentration of power, but then I remembered all the upsets and the spread of finalists from different states

Two portal guys one of which pulled off possibly the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history and one of which had never finished higher than 6th, both of which had to beat 2 NCAA champs for their titles…

Plott seemed like basically the same guy to me.  I was a little disappointed in Surber, he was having a great year and seemed to show the biggest improvement during the season.  But I believe Surber and Jamison were the only guys to underperform their seed?

But, also kinda hard to nitpick their homegrown guys when he didn’t recruit any of them…

I simply cannot believe how much Trump has gotten into certain people’s heads. This is the first I recall of a finals thread veering into politics so swiftly and durably.
