Penn State has 155 points. A third or fifth place win is worth 1 more placement point. A first place win is worth 4 more placement points.

PSU's 9 remaining wrestlers can earn 18 more placement points, putting their total at 173.

They can afford to miss out on a few third place finishes as long as they get enough bonus points to cover the difference.

It will be much harder to do if they lose a final, but not impossible. Technically they can lose all three finals, as long as they pinfall everyone else, and still get the record.

Sucks to be them.

Okay, 8 top 3 finishers and 5th, and a semi-finalist that MFF out.. Damn. That is a hell of a performance and bounce back from the four guys that lost last night. I thought we might see some sad boy hour losses on the backside, but we did not. Nothing but credit to be given there.

PSU Currently at 169 points heading into the finals.

5 3rd place finishes

1 5th place finish

1 6th palace finish that likely would have been 2nd or 3rd if not injured.

3 finalists... win 1 PSU breaks the All Time Scoring record again

Its idiotic that people love mentioning the scoring record after NIL, the portal, 3 point takedown, and 4 point nearfall.....who could it be more skewed.

Wow, 8 third place finishes?  How did Penn State get to enter 13 wrestlers in total?

Two things can be true at the same time. Scoring bonus, and have a complete roster of 10 hammers has never been easier than it is now through the portal and NIL, but to do what Penn State did is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon. To not only have the horses, but to also perform as well as they did is pretty remarkable.

you're correct, I just think we need about ten years to put it in perspective, and the amount of mentions it gets without context is just willful ignorance.
