My comment wasn't defending Slava but the randomness that stalling is called.   I forget what match it was but one wrestler had like 5-6 shots to none, backs other wrestler to the edge, other wrestler circles back in so wrestler's back is on the line, wrestler takes one step back and is hit.

Hoffman's head was on the mat for 5 minutes.  Either he needed hit or Kerk did.   Refs are only calling stalling on the edge and personally I think it's kind of gutless.

Sure, stall calling can be frustratingly random but the optics of a guy flat out running right to the edge and beyond without having any contact with the opposing wrestler is terrible.........it WILL get called every time, I've never seen anything like it.........he literally speed walked backwards to the edge and as soon Gable made any move towards engaging he backed out of the circle and a few times waaaaay out of the circle......the time Gable jumped backwards on the edge so Slava couldnt back pedal anymore and force Slava to wrestle was something I hope to never see again in a NCAA match......terrible optics for the sport at it's biggest tournament.....Slava basically forced the ref to stall him out.......if there was a turnbuckle Slava may have started eating it.........

All this said I am not a Stevenson fan by any means, but that match was a travesty........were all the Rutgers coaches yelling "Boom" after the match?

Kueter has improved a ton this year. I hope he sticks with wrestling full Tim. He could be special.

It is crazy.  People were very high on Feldman coming into the year.   It seems like Feldman may never be able to beat Kueter (of course he can, but its a bad trend currently), but Feldman has shown the ability to keep it at least a little respectable with the Big 3.  Kueter gets absolutely ragdolled by those  guys.

Matchups, and in this case, horsepower.

I'm not saying this as an Illini fan [i am partially] but as a heavyweight who is pounding the sand saying a 285 cultural change has happened. Cohlton Schultz is literally everything I hate about stereotype heavyweight wrestling. He needs to clean up his diet and act like he gives two hoots about being a successful senior athlete. I hope Gable doesn't get caught under his titties and takes him to the woodshed.

Gable is a supreme athlete and gets after it when he wants.  His belly has not gotten smaller since the Olympics. When Daniel Cormier (of all people) says he'd like Gable to lose 30+ lbs if he gets into MMA, it might be time for Lean Cuisine and a peloton.

It was bad but hell the man announcing for matcast once spent over 5 minutes of a match with a foot out of bounds in the finals.

Stevenson turned it into a sumo match.   He wasn't trying to score but bullied Slav with vastly superior strength.

Tom wasted a brick just to yell at the refs for something that happened 10 minutes before

the irony is toms challenge earlier in the match cost cannon that match.

Go to his instagram and you'll see he (Steveson) has slimmed down quite a bit

Did things get contentious after the match with Shapiro vs CMU?  If so, what happened?  I was watching another mat and CMU looked a bit perturbed.

A little bit. Lovett and Shapiro were pretty physical with each other during the match and I think Lovett popped Shapiro in the chops a couple times (Shapiro was bleeding from his mouth at the end). It looks like the two exchanged a couple of words and things were a bit chippy but I didn't see anything egregious by either guy. Just a really physical match.

I remember that match! I also remember the gentleman who won a bronze in Paris diving for the gym floor when he was dead to rights on a takedown.

Bartlett could be related to Freddie Mercury.

Barlett must play golf, he try's to win by scoring the leastest!

Since the Big 10 final two weeks back? Because there was quite a noticeable spare tire visible during his dismantling of kerk.

He had to bulk up for his NFL tryouts.

Maybe he's trying to set the record for the lowest combined point total for a national champ?

Jason Tsirtsis has to be in the mix, though I'm guessing someone has scored fewer. He won the title in 2014 with a combined 15 points over five matches:

  • Bryce Busler (Bloomsberg) 149 W Dec 4-1
  • James English (PSU) 149 W Dec 4-3
  • Kendric Maple (Oklahoma) 149 W Dec SV1 2-1
  • Drake Houdashelt (Missouri) 149 W Dec SV1 2-1
  • Joshua Kindig (Oklahoma State) 149 W Dec SV1 3-1

With the three-point takedown, adjusted stalling and neutral danger rules, something like Tsirtsis' run would be hard to replicate.
