Everything = all criteria
Else = not al the criteria

In this instance, else is being defined to say all the criteria that is not h2h or conference finish.

I don't think hardy will be ahead in the RPI or the coaches.

Thus, everything else is equal or very close.

h2h > conference finish

I guess Flo rankers agree with you, they kept Bartlett one and put Hardy two.  I’m also I’m surprised they kept Happel at 5

Interesting that Ramos stays above Lilledahl in coaches rank, but Hardy passes Bartlett.  Hardy also now ahead of Bartlett in RPI.

It is odd that the coaches are still ranking a whole bunch of wrestlers who did not qualify for the tournament, which means they also left a lot out.

And the ranking list is not the same as the RPI list.

What a mess.

Two reasons I can imagine for a true national ranking: 1) it communicates a true picture of how the coaches viewed everybody in the end,  and 2) guys who qualified for the tournament that had subpar seasons get lumped together in not earning any points in the Coaches' rank category when determining seeding.

Ranking list is not the same as the RPI list because you still have to have a minimum number of matches to qualify for RPI.

I agree, but what I think it is is lack of attention to detail. The coaches submit their starters and rather than filtering that list down to the 330 who made the tournament, I suspect they are using an unfiltered list.

As for RPI, yes, many of the differences come down to match totals, but there are also wrestlers on the RPI list who did not make the tournament. And no actual RPIs are listed. Just a little sloppy.

This also makes it impossible to check their work. In another post @jdalu75 does they math to demonstrate small errors can have impacts on who makes the tournament and who does not.

I'd assume it isn't filtered down to just qualifiers because it was used to determine at-large too. You needed those guys in there to be able to do the full comparisons.

Really, they should have a coaches and RPI for both before after all the qualifiers are known. One helps determines them all. One helps seed them all.

Coaches rewarding the guys who faced tougher schedules, went to CKLV/holiday tournaments, etc.

Liledahl has the worst loses of anyone being conditioner for a top seed at any weight, but also majored the previous #1 and presumed #1 seed and won the toughest conference.   I don't envy the seeding committee.

The brackets never go according to plan, but the top eight seeds at 141 are:

  • 1- Hardy
  • 8- Alirez
  • 5- Happel
  • 4- Koderhandt
  • 3- Mendez
  • 6- VomBaur
  • 7- Jamison
  • 2- Bartlett

What do people think about this?

Mendez vs. Vombaur quarters, Mendez would have an easier path at 4.  But he did go through Hardy, Echmendia and Bartlett last year.  Hope he gets that burst back he has been lacking the last month.  Love to see Mendez vs. Hardy finals

I think they got it right.  Maybe Happel the 3 and move everyone up one but Happel did have a bad loss at CKLV
