I was going to chastise you that there was already an open Ferrari thread for this but then clicked the link and saw what your (good) topic really was.

The criteria for at large from the NCAA: "The coaches’ ranking and RPI are two of several criteria that will be evaluated during the at-large selection and seeding process along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage."

@SetonHallPirate is it possible for a wrestler who did not earn an allocation to be able to pass a wrester who did earn an allocation to get an at-large?

Yes. If the allocation earner places at least two spots below the allocation level in their conference they are automatically eliminated, so a non-earner who finished one below the allocation total could, with the right mix of other criteria, take an at-large spot. Less likely is an allocation earner finishing one below the allocation level and then losing out on the other credentials as they would have entered the tournie with a lead there.

Thanks! That's what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure. Appreciate your input.

I was reading in the NCAA manual and came across this. It seems they are not automatically eliminated, but would not meet that criteria... they could meet two other criteria to still be eligibile.

"On March 10, wrestlers in each weight class will receive an updated Win %, RPI and coaches’ ranking that includes all competition through the qualifying events. Wrestlers who meet or exceed any two of the following criteria will be eligible for at-large consideration: ● .700 Win % ● Top 33 RPI ● Top 33 CR ● .700 winning percentage against all competition ● One win against a wrestler receiving an earned position (preallocated) ● Qualifying event placement one below number of preallocated spots Only wrestlers that meet or exceed two of the above criteria will be eligible for selection as at-large qualifiers. A wrestler must have participated in at least two matches in his respective conference or qualifying tournament in order to be considered for at-large selection to the championships."

I'm surprised Conner Harer didn't earn a spot or was at least the alternate at 157. He finished 9th in the Big Ten (one away from an AQ, beat Stampoulos (the alternate), and split against Chumbley.

Having Stampoulos over him makes little sense IMO

Harer's 13-11 record (54%) prior to the B1G mini-tournament had to hurt, as did his 2-3 finish.
