It is out of the question that they will have no champions

Yet...if you use the field averages PSU has a greater chance of 0 champs (2.0%) than Minnesota had of 10 AAs (0.7%).

How about with the PSU historical averages?

They’re getting at least 3 for sure.  Mesenbrink, Starocci, and at least one of the rest.  Even if somehow one of Mesenbrink or Starocci don’t win, they could easily get 2+ from the rest.  4 is most likely IMO, would not be surprised at all by 5 or probably even 6.

Starocci is not a guarantee.

Probably about 80% chance IMO.  But they also have 8 other guys (not counting Mesenbrink who is close to a guarantee) with a chance also

Despite your data, I think Penn State only has 2 champs this year.

165 Mesenbrink

184 Starocci

Penn State will have 4 runners up though:

149 SVN

157 Kasak

174 Haines

HWT Kerk

3rd place:

141 Bartlett

197 Barr

Haines is going to lose? I don't think so. That's three champs. And don't count out Bartlett. So could be four. And what about SVN?

And Kasak? Could be six. Only lock is Mesenbrink. The other five have really stiff comp.

Haines has already lost this year, and could've/should've lost to Kharchla. They could have as many as 6 champs or as low as 1. Unfortunately(fortunately for me) Psu has been starting to lose more in the finals in recent years.

Should’ve?

Nothing about that match was remotely controversial. He scored more points than Kharchla, and won.

He already lost to KOT this season.  He could lose to him again.

He took a dumb shot and got countered. If he doesn’t do that he likely wins. Hence “should’ve”.

You are too focused on 2023.

That is the only year in the last four that they have been below their average for the Cael years. Last year, winning 4 of 6 (66.7%), is spot on their Cael Era average, 38 of 57 (66.7%).

Across the four years they are 15 for 20 in the finals (75%).

Why is everybody forgetting that PSU peaks in March better than any other team, and has for 10 years. 5 finalists, 4 champs, 9 AA.

Looks like we have a few pastry wannabes trying to downplay PSU so they can act surprised when they get 5 champs
