I think the final nail in the coffin was when Smith gave an interview and admitted he "had no idea why he hung around after his last team title".

Oh yeah, that was rough.  I am glad he got to retire on a somewhat decent finish at NCAAs (still bad by OSU standards, I know), and it seems like John is happier now in photos I have seen of him since.

It reminds me of the Joe Smith debacle when John started his boy, who got seeded #33 at NCAAs due to a lack of matches, when he should've just stuck with the 2 time AA that had wrestled all year.

Wasn't Joe also an AA?  I would've rather seen Rogers go but some folks probably would've complained if they didn't go with the wrestle off results.

Yeah, I think he was a 2 timer in his own right, 4th and 7th as I recall.

And was a Fargo champ and named OW in high school. It's not like he was just handed a spot in the room from day one.

The issue isn't about Joe Smith's wrestling ability.

Seventeen years seems a long time to linger...

I'd linger if I was pulling down John Smith's salary over those years.

... how many years have you be lingering with those others in the back of the bus?  🤓  🚍
